The client must be able to communicate through http/https at port 80. You are better off using https because the Rogers proxy is not as able to muck things up. I use meebo to do my gtalk/yahoo/msn/irc messaging, through https port 80
i'm trying to get the gmail app on a android phone (lg eve) using SO's UMB so are you saying i have to make another apn profile with https or modify my existing one?
i can browse through the default web browser but no opera mini or google apps are working

It looks like a bug in Android 2.1 where the applications ignore the APN proxy settings.
