I am interested in getting a smartphone with wifi and qwerty keyboard but dont want to pay $500 +
Has anyone tried a clone from China and what are your experiences with it?

Unless you can test one personally, I would not chance it. I have had some phones with absolutely horrid user interfaces. If you can wait, that would be best. I believe 2010 will have a flood of google phones at decent prices coming from China.

Thanks for the info! I will probably wait and see what comes out... Have you found any reliable websites that you like to order from? I've read some horror stories of wholesalers that take your money and send something not advertised or send nothing at all 😕

I have personally tested many clone smartphones and they all seemed to really suck. The upside was the cheapness, you can find them on ebay from reputable sellers with lots of feedback.

Ebay and paypal are your friends. The vendor does not get the money until you give good feedback or after 60 days. The vendors with a lot of feedback are usually good bets. Nokia smartphones tend to be priced nicely. I would still wait though. I am certain there will be better prices for devices with usable interfaces.
