I bought a Huawei Ascend Y215, model U8687, directly from 7-Eleven SpeakOut. Some important technical information that I couldn't find online before buying this phone is:
- It was shipped SIM Unlocked and can be used with any carrier.
- It was shipped Bootloader Locked.
- DC-Unlocker can open the bootloader; the Y215 is recognized as a Huawei MSM8X25 series phone.
- Framaroot can root the stock firmware through the Gandalf exploit.
This phone is indeed overpriced, even if you buy it with a top-up discount. Walmart currently sells a rebrand of the same hardware for $90 at retail.
The camera in the Huawei Ascend Y215 is especially bad, and the user interface is laggy and artifacted because the video driver and/or touchpad drivers are half-baked. The Y215 is the kind of phone that you keep as a spare if you can get it inexpensively or if you need something right now.
