Easy. Just set up a new mail account on your iphone. Instead of selecting the "Gmail" option, select "Exchange" instead. Put in your gmail account info and you'll be good to go.

Because Speakout data goes though a proxy, using only port 80, IMAP would not work.

Push notifications do not work with Speakout. Once again, the proxy is the problem.

you mean the Exchange ActiveSync ? As far as I know, ActiveSync is a purely HTTP/HTTPS so should not have problem with proxy

I used these settings for my iPad. I can surf using Safari with no problem.
My issue is that for certain programs such as mail and a terminal emulator app that I use, I cannot access them in 3G. Wifi works great.
Any ideas?

Got it working with an iPhone 2G (original model) using the following steps (OS X):
Download the iPhone Configuration Utility (free from Apple):
http://support.apple.com/downl.....r_Mac_OS_X
Launch it.
Click on "Configuration Profiles" in the left column.
Click the "New" button in the top left corner.
Under the "General" section fill in the "Name" and "Identifier" fields with whatever you like, I used:

Name: "Speakout Wireless"
Identifier: "com.speakout.wireless"

In the "Advanced" section, enter the following:

APN: "goam.com"
User Name: "wapuser1"
Password: "wap"
Proxy Server: "10.128.1.69"
Port: "80"

Then attach your iPhone to the computer, it will show up in the left column under Devices. When you see it, click on it to select it.
In the right screen, click the "Configuration Profiles" tab. You should see the "Speakout Wireless" configuration you just created.
Click the "Install" button next to it.
Your iPhone will now prompt you to install the profile, which should take just a few seconds.
Then you should be done!
Good luck
Kieran

If you have iPhone and like to use speakout internet browsing

in your iPhone click Safari go to http://unlockit.co.nz
click coutinue
click Custom APN
Country Select Canada
Carrier Select Speakout
then Create Profile
APN Carrier Setting click install
wait few seconds to install APN in your iPhone
Then you are ready to go
enjoy

Does this unlockit.nz site perform iphone unlocking (or whatever is needed to make the phone usable with speakout)? I am giving some thought to buying an iphone 3G or GS on ebay and I see the prices are significantly lower for phones that are locked to some carrier. I don't see any Rogers ones.

No, that site will not unlock it, it just installs the APN to your phone so you can use the data.

Forget ebay. Check your local craigslist or kijiji as you will get a better price and be able to inspect the phone before purchasing.

No luck on the local kijiji or Craig's list. Amazon has some 16 GB 3GS's around $280. Ebay is showing some at buy now prices of $230 + $23 shipping, located in Vancouver. I just saw an auction end at $180. A brand new 8 GB from the Apple store is $375.

So I have a Rogers 3g I'm trying to set up for data on Speakout. I tried setting up the APN using Keiran's directions but I couldn't find a version iphone configuration utility that I could use with Mac OS 5 so I also went to http://unlockit.co.nz and I still can't connect to data. Advice?

may be rollback to 4.3 ? I don't like these 'latest and greatest', especially from Apple. One more reason for me to stay at 4.3

That is the Apple tax you pay. I would say 3GS is inferior to most Android models but each of their own.

Things have changed slightly. You will get much better performance if you leave the "Proxy Server" entry blank.

Just to let folks know how it worked out for me. I ordered an iPhone 3G on ebay.ca from sap-tech in Vancouver. It arrived looking brand new and worked perfectly when I popped in the sim card from my Speakout phone. It took a minute or two at that unlockit site to get the internet working.

Internet works very well – a thousand times nicer than the Nokia C3 I briefly tried.
It is just like my wife's Telus iPhone for $50 a month except I pay only $10 plus my 25 cents a minute and don't have to worry about using more than half a GB. What a deal! I just ordered another one for my daughter.

I made a mistake on my last post – my iPhone is a 3G, not a 3GS. That means iOS4, can't update to 5, no movie camera and slower. iMessage app can't send text via internet. But still really nice.

I have browsed with Safari and used the built in email app (with Gmail), sent text messages via data with "whatsapp" (text messaging system that uses internet instead of SMS for sending and receiving by others with the app). Maps app. Weather app. No problems encountered so far, except the GPS doesn't seem to work well – very large circle of uncertainty. Cloudy here today, though.

Update: the GPS doesn't work. Apparently this is very common with jail broken phones. The jailbreak/unlock involves a fake update to firmware baseband version 6.15, and this causes the GPS to be not found by ios. Too bad, I was looking forward to having a great GPS in my phone.

Got a 3GS a month ago. I just put the Speakout SIM in, and everything worked like a charm.

Last week something happened (with Speakout ???) and everything data related stopped working for about 1 day. After that, I had to do the http://unlockit.co.nz settings mentioned above and Internet started working again on 3G (it was working all the time on Wifi). Except everything that needs a login: Netflix, ipPhone - used vBuzzer, Gmail Email, etc. does NOT work on 3G anymore.
Any ideas why? It really worked for a couple of weeks amazing.

Not sure what to do other than the APN settings?

Best guess is that Rogers plugged an exploit that allowed people to bypass their proxy. I do not believe Rogers ever intended you to use netflix, VOIP, etc on a $10 unlimited data plan, but it happened, and now, no more. Considering you were sold a unlimited browsing plan and not a unlimited data plan, there is not much you can do about it except cancel.
