Hi all,
I'm so glad I found this forum, people here seem to really know about speakout...
Here is my problem: I have a European (unlocked) iPhone 3G and I will be spending three weeks in Canada in December. During that time I would like to use my iPhone, for a few occasional calls and especially for data. As I'm not a Canadian resident I won't be able to get any postpaid plan, so it has to be prepaid.
I've checked with Fido and the data pass would cost me $7 a week (cheaper data is not available for prepaid), Rogers is even worse at $3 a day.
Now my question is: Would this be cheaper with SpeakOut? $10 per month for data sounds great, and from what I read in this forum it works with the iPhone. What I'm still not sure about is whether this is 3G data access or only GSM (EDGE), which is a significant difference in speed. Do you iPhone users see the 3G in the header row of the phone or only an E?
And why are the sim cards so expensive? Fido charges $10, Bell $5, but looking at ebay and forums I only found speakout sim cards for around $30. Does any credit come together with the sim card (that I could then use to buy the data plan) or is the only reason for this that 7eleven doesn't sell sim cards directly?
BRgds,
Caroline
