Hi everyone,

I'm working with a refugee family new to Canada and trying to get them the cheapest possible access to the internet.

Is it possible to use a SO SIM card in a USB dongle, plug it into their (donated) laptop to allow them basic web browsing capabilities? Which dongle would you recommend? (Are there specific wireless ranges it needs to support?)

As much info as possible would be helpful! I've never used data/SIM cards before (I have a "dumb" phone provided through work) so this is fairly new to me.

Thanks!

1. that is definitely against their TOS
2. SO UMB is not full internet so even if you can, it is limited to browsing only
3. technically, you can.

Thanks for the quick reply!

What part specifically is against the TOS? Using it in an dongle vs. a phone? I'd like to explore the option as I'm sure they don't have enough $$ to pick up a smartphone.

What wireless range would the SO SIM card be on?

It's against this specific part of the TOS:

"7-Eleven SpeakOut Wireless Unlimited web add on cannot be used: (1) for access to the Internet, intranets, or other data networks except as the device’s native applications and capabilities permit, or (2) for any applications that tether your device to laptops or personal computers other than for the use of Wireless Synch."

Please read the rules before you post.
