As the title says, I will need lots of advice with this phone.
What to expect with SO and what features I will be able to utilize.
Does it require a DATA plan? Why?
If you have an iPhone please help me and advise me.
Haven't even got my SIM card cut down to try the phone. Getting a cutter today since I have more than one SIM card to cut, one SO and one Mexican TELCEL card.
Thank you

iPhones tended to be a great phones for Speakout UMB because most of the apps were already web based. You do not need any data plan, or even UMB to get good use out of a iPhone, if you are around a lot of wifi hotspots or just use the iPhone as a phone.
If you are using Speakout UMB for web browsing, you should do fine. Media streaming, or VOIP may or may not work, but are frowned upon, if not blocked entirely. Use wifi if you intend to do that sort of stuff, or get a data plan.

as always, it depends what one wants.
major email works over UMB, major IM like whatsapp or google talk doesn't. I find UMB on iphone is mostly adequate, full data is in general not needed but then I only use it for communication(and no VOIP).
just found out that openvpn now has official app so for the tech savvy, you can get full data for the really rare occasion but the usual no push notification limitation is still there.

Got my card cut down and works A1. Cut down a SIM I use in the winter in Mexico on the Telcel system there. Was able to test it too since it logs onto Rogers. Not too shabby for a $ 10,00 cutter.
Next what is UMB? Clarification please.
UMB for web browsing, I suppose that counts against air time minutes?
So what you are saying UMB lets me download emails and/or reply?
Sorry, I am feeling really stupid now.
I have it also going on WiFi at home that was easy.
Also learned really quick to download a program which let me transfer over 1,000 MP3 music to the iPhone using this program CopyTrans
You have so much time and then you have to purchase it.

UMB is Unlimited Mobile Browsing, and if you do that, it is truly unlimited. It means you can browse as many web pages as you want from your phone, and download the odd file, but it does not mean you can download the internet. UMB is not suited for streaming media, or VOIP. Web based email works. POP/IMAP, not so much.
UMB is not used against your minutes. You pay $10 a month and you have the UMB feature.

May I ask a UMB question?
I found out now that there are certain things such as "SIRI" voice commands and Maps as well as a few others do not work unless connected to the Internet.
I wonder if UMB would let me do that. Also if I were to go that route, do you have to take it for 12 months or could it be taken on a month to by month basis? Reason for that is I live in Canada for 6 months and in Mexico for 6 months to get away from the winter.
Thx

You may need a phone with a bigger screen! maybe even a ipad! I use my phone's UMB different than I use a computer. I use the umb to get stuff, the computer I use to browse.
Apparently, Siri works with Speakout UMB. Maps work also.
You can activate/deactivate any feature with Speakout any time. With no features active, you will still get charged a $1.25 system access fee every month though. Also, you have to top up once a year or the balance and account will expire. You only need to top up $25 though, and that will last you a year.

Thanks once again.
I broke down and bought a $ 100.00 top up with a $ 25.00 added bonus plus a micro SD card, hope fully can be used with my current local number.
Since I am going to do some traveling to Newfoundland I opted for the UMB and will cancel it before I leave for Mexico in the middle of October.
I also installed "VIBER" on my iphone which lets you talk with any other VIBER anywhere in the world for free. Works with WiFi. Another similar is "VOXER", you use your phone like a WalkieTalkie.
