Hello,
I recently picked up a Blackberry Bold 9000 that worked from the moment I charged up the battery. I am so happy with it; but, the hubby doesn't like the BB so I bought him an unlocked Motorola SLVR L7. However, the L7 doesn't work and I don't know if it's defective or whether it needs certain software, etc. I have never had a cellphone prior to a few months ago so I'm totally at a loss.
When I turn the phone on the message on the screen says 'Insert SIM'. I tried using the SIM from the BB but it made no difference but I don't know whether it is supposed to work. Anyway, I thought I should be able to access the phone's features and camera without a SIM. ??? If I the press the Menu button, the message says: 'Emergency calls only'. And that is as far as I can get.
I have a good quality usb data cable and when I initially connected the phone to the computer, the message stated that the usb driver installed successfully. In My Computer, a Removable Drive pops up when I connect the phone but if I click to open the drive, I'm told to insert a disk.
Can anyone offer any words of wisdom or send me off in the right direction.
Many thanks to all

If you are getting an insert SIM message, the SIM contacts are not conecting to the phone contact. See what happens when you clean the contacts on the phone and the SIM card. Jiggle it around to see if you can make contact. power up and down until you get results.
It is a 9 year old phone, so a component might have bit it also.

Hi Bridonca,
Many thanks for your post.
Having never even picked up a cell phone prior to 3 months ago, some things that may be obvious to some are so ‘way over my head’. But thanks to your suggestion to check/clean the contacts I set out for information as to how to accomplish such task(s). The last thing I needed was to ruin my good SIM.
During my internet travels I came across a site that had seemingly no relevance to my dilemma but there was some interesting information therein so I bounced around for awhile and ‘lo and behold’ I came across a diagram of my Moto L7 showing full & specific details for installing a SIM. My owner’s manual lacks such detail. Apparently there is a little metal switch that slides across the SIM card as it sits in its recessed spot to lock it into place. Live and Learn!!!
Bottom line: All is Well. After popping in the Speakout SIM from my BB and properly securing it into place the $20 Motorola ebay purchase is up and running in perfect order.
Thank you, Thank you.
