HI,
My wife is on maternity leave and requires a phone for a year. We have the most basic SO phone.

I would like to get her a phone with:

good looks (subjective)
keypad (she likes to text)
easy to unlock
new in box
price range up to $150

Thanks!

Try a site like this. You can check mark any features you want.

there are lots of blackberry on sale here and there lately which according to many source, very easy to unlock. sounds to meet your need.

Though physical keyboard is on the way out in general.

bought it. this phone is really small(a bit too small). So heavy texting can be difficult and the font is on the a little bit uncomfortable side(though probably because of my eyesight is failing due to age).

have to factor in the 10-20 dollar unlock fee.

I would say this is a very nice media player/pocket camera type device which happens to have smart phone functionality. text centric activities IMO is not recommended but one has to try it out.

Thank you Chimpanzee for your input – i wont be texting much but will check it out to see the font, i do like a larger font i agree. I am just concerned with the battery life due to my experience with the other sony phones i have.

For dhils
the samsung gio phone is on sale in walmart.ca you can check online some stores carry and some out of stock. I see you are in winnipeg an am not sure about there. You can type your postal code and check it out scroll up and down to see which is the next store it is available, that is if you want it

There is another thread on this devices thread regarding gio advice you may please check it out.

I bit the bullet and picked this up from FS. Can you suggest a trustworthy unlock site?

wotanserver.com

what they do is they have written a pretty well polished unlock program which do it all for you automatically(other than requiring you to short two test point on the phone).

it will unlock everything and allows you to flash generic rom(i.e. no more telus logo on boot) which they also have special program to do it, for 2 times free.

well worth the 10 EURO(no tax).

They are the same company/people as fastgsm.com and given fastgsm has been in this business for a while, I would assume if their stuff is spyware/trojan, it would have been reported now.

But if you are paranoid, find an old PC and install a plain W7 to do it then scrap it.
