Finally. I basically have not have a maps application that worked outside of WiFi since updating to iOS 6. I tested the Google Maps turn-by-turn on the way into the office this morning and it worked great.

I can concur. Just tested the app, even made some wrong turns on purpose and it guided me to where I as going. Maps loaded quickly as well.

Before you do, check out this thread. I upgraded and the battery drained so fast that I couldn't get full day with light usage. Compared to 5.1.1, I get 2 days with the same usage.

I have a iphone 4s running iOS 6.0.1 on Speakout UMB. Tried 3 different routes with turn by turn voice navigation and works very well. Very happy with the app.

Apple maps did not always display the maps during turn by turn (i.e I would get a blank map with a navigating arrow). Not sure if that was a Apple maps issue or UMB issue. Google maps so far had no issues on UMB.

Only thing left to do is for Apple to allow Google maps to be integrated to iOS. So for example, in contacts, if I select an address, it should give me an option to choose between Apple or Google maps.

This is a part of a story on Cnet. "Get to know Google Maps iOS". It may help.

Once you begin navigation, you'll receive voice instructions along the way. And don't worry about leaving your screen on and killing battery during the journey. Google Maps will still provide you with directions with your iPhone locked, complete with notifications on your screen of the next turn or step.

I believe you have to lock the screen, otherwise it stays open, therefore using more power. Might be useful to check out the complete story.

Wow finally! I just hated the Apple maps, always didn't load, image was messed up, and when I was driving to Alberta using my iPhone as a GPS navigation system, it got me lost and I got a white picture with an arrow in the middle... But I just want to say that Google Maps is awesome, love the turn by turn navigation and how easy it is to use it... 10 thumbs up for Google.
