My mom likes the large number keys on the NOKIA 2720 so we picked up one at 7-11 (missed the 50% discount by a few days - drat!) Anyway, we bring it home and charge it up and plug in her old SIM card, but the phone thinks it doesn't have a SIM card in it. I know the NEW SIM card won't work until activated by calling some number and doing stuff, but does the PHONE need some activation magic in order to work? If so, is there a way of getting the phone working with the old SIM without activating the NEW SIM card? I was thinking that having an unactivated SIM card might be useful in the future, or that an unactivated card might be more useful to someone else in comparison to an activated one.

Is the old SIM card a Speakout 7-eleven SIM card? If so, it should work just fine. If it does not, there is either something wrong with the phone, or there is something wrong with the SIM card because of it's age. I would give a Speakout CSR representative a call and see if you can get a replacement SIM card

All devices and cards are 7-11 Speakout purchases.
The old SIM and the old phone work fine together.
When I turn on the new phone with either the old SIM card, or the new SIM card, the phone displays a "no SIM card" message.
I'll try activating the new phone/new SIM card combo and then see if anyone wants to buy the new SIM card on the "for-sale" forum, assuming it all starts working of course.

It looks like I got a bad phone - I talked to customer service and they had me return it to the store for another one. The new device immediately recognized the old SIM and started working just fine and mom is pleased with the button size.
Now I've found someone on the buy-and-sell list who wants the new, unactivated SIM, so I'll send that off to them.
