You have to create and install a profile for Speakout. ...snip..
Thanks, andreww!! I'm up and running now. Customer service was no help, not surprisingly, but the person I spoke to was completely in the dark, saying she had heard that it was "hit or miss" with iphones, sometimes they iphone work with speakout & sometimes they don't. So it was a great relief to find your detailed information about how to configure the iphone.

Whatsapp and most other messaging programs have been blocked. Remember, Speakout is still very much in the text business. They don't want to allow apps that will let you do that for free.
As for Mail, the only email service that works with Mail/Speakout is GMail. You have to set it up as an Exchange account however. When setting up the account, select "Exchange", not "GMail". The rest is pretty simple.
Hope this helps.

Could you post the exact steps to get GMail working on the iPhone? I mean working through the mail app, I don't mean going to the gmail site through a web browser. Currently my Mail app can only check my Gmail when a wifi connection is present.
Also, I noticed you said "most" messaging programs have been blocked. There's a certain messaging app I use on Petro Canada Mobility that starts with t and ends with s which works fine over GPRS when no wifi is present. Do you know if that one works with the similar SpeakOut mobile web as well? I am switching from Petro Canada Mobility to SpeakOut Wireless in a few days and would hate for that app to not work anymore on my iPhone. I use it daily for texting back and forth with an American friend and having a free messaging app is absolutely essential for me.
Could you post or PM me the names of other text messaging programs that DO work on the iPhone over GPRS? I actually have a jailbroken unlocked iPhone 2G, not an iPhone 4, but it shouldn't make any difference as far as the apps go.
Thanks!

can u pls also guide me thru the gmail settings? do I hv to remove the original gmail account profile on my phone first?
Hey I found instructions on how to get Gmail working through the iPhone Mail app:
http://email.about.com/od/ipho.....e_Mail.htm
You have to set it up as a Microsoft Exchange account instead of a Gmail account so that it works over data and not just wi-fi. I deactivated the original Mail settings in my phone before going through the steps. I just went through the steps and it's working like a charm!
I suspect that because of the constant Push mail it will eat through your battery reserves faster though…so you might want to go back into the settings and change "Fetch New Data" on the Accounts screen to "Fetch every 15 minutes" instead of "Push". It all depends on how important it is for you to get mail immediately. For me, I'd rather the battery last a bit longer and can always change it back to Push temporarily if I'm waiting for an important email.

Thanks Andrew, so that includes the GPS applications that use internet data right? like picking up traffic info over the internet and sendout gps location emails via gps application?
a voip workaround would be awesome.
also do they have microsims or you have to cut the sim?
Not sure exactly what app that you want to use, But I have had no problems using the built in maps app, Navigon GPS, assorted golf GPS apps, facebook and twitter location services, all without issue over SO data.
No they don't use microsims, you have to cut down a regular SIM.

Hi, I'm using SO on a factory unlocked iphone 4. I followed andreww's great instructions to create and install a profile for SO. It installed fine but I'm still not getting an internet connection even though the $10/mth browsing feature is activated. I can get a connection no problem when I am at home with my own wireless internet or at friends' homes when I enter their passwords. However outside of these areas when I try to access an app or email etc I get a pop up saying it can't connect and then this OneZone wireless service offer comes up (I am in downtown Toronto). It's not just a peak hour downtown Toronto thing either as the same thing happens when I'm in the burbs (eg Etobicoke, Mississauga - although then I don't get the OneZone pop up).
So...
1) How do I get the SO browsing feature working on my phone. (I have it on 3G but thought SO was on 3G now??)
and
2) Is it worth it to get the OneZone thing instead or in addition to SO's browsing? (I spend most of my time in their radius)
If anyone can help pinpoint what I'm doing wrong it would be much appreciated! Thank you!
