I just bought a Speakout Nokia 2720 for a family member, our first experience with Speakout. The service seems great. Just a couple of startup problems for new users using the automated activation process: 1) They don't mention that the phone isn't activated until you make an outgoing call (we spent the first hour waiting while trying to call it). 2) The voicemail isn't activated for 24 hours rather than the 30 minutes they suggest. We ended up having to call Customer Service anyway to get these answers.

The Nokia 2720 is not a very good phone, and overpriced in my opinion (competitors are selling it as a prepaid phone for $60). But I guess it will serve if we can resolve a couple of issues.

The main one is that this phone appears to have no ability to assign ring tones to contacts (even though it can assign photos to contacts). That's astonishing. Online reviews mention an ability to create call groups and assign a ring tone to a group, but the manual mentions no such capability. Is there any way to assign a ring tone to a contact?

Ok, thanks edn for confirming that there is no way to set a ring tone for individual contacts, but how the heck do you create a group and set a ring tone for the group? I found nothing about groups in the phone settings or in the manual.

Hi, to make a group

select menu
select contacts
scroll to groups and select
select options
select add new group
name the group
scroll to group tone and select a tone
select save

this takes you to a list of the groups you have made

select view
select add

this takes you into your phone book

scroll to the person you want to add to the group
select add

this adds the person to the group

select add again, goes to phone book to get the next person, etc

Hope that helps
