So does anyone know if the Nokia 5130 is any good?
Does it come with good ringtones?
Is there picture call display, personolized ringtones?
Thanks
p.s i need ur help i am looking for a cheap cell and this is my best bet i think, but i want a good phone!
Yes, the 5130 is an excellent phone IMHO. There are good ringtones, and you can download them as well. Personally I just like a ringtone that sounds like a normal ringing phone, and the phone has one already on it. There is picture call display as well, and I think there is an option for video call display as well, I just haven't used it.
It also has an mp3 player and FM radio, which is a really nice feature. The only thing I've noticed, is that the battery life isn't as great as my Nokia 1208. All in all, I highly recommend the Nokia 5130
Ya! This was my 500th post! 🙂

the ringtones you get get for free online. use Nokia PC suite to put them on the phone from your computer
there is picture call display
for it's interned purpose (talk and music with occasional txt) it's a great phone. the build quality is far better then a lot of other pay as you go phones. if SO does roll out the unlimited internet as rumored the 5130 comes with opera mini which is a great browser (i've used it with a E61i)

I bought the 5130 thinking I would upgrade pretty quickly to a non SO phone, however I was pleasantly surprised at how much I like this phone. It's by far the best quality feel of the SO phones and lots of great customizable features. I only wish it had a slide out QWERTY keyboard to make it easier for texting and using the organizer.
Extra benefit. The loudspeaker works fantastic for hands free when driving. I bought a holder like used for GPS units and sit it in there, no need for a bluetooth headset.

You can wait until that might happen, or it might be easier and quicker gettting an unlocked qwerty phone. SpeakOut has been basically a service for light users who just want to make calls. When they introduced the 5130, I was surprised but not shocked, for releasing a well featured phone. A phone miles ahead of their other phones. My guess is that i'tll be at least another year or so before you see a qwerty phone being offered be SpeakOut, if at all. Time will tell.

what is the diffrence beetween a locked and unlocked phone?
if i get a diffrent phone and use it with SO service wiil:
a) get voicemail and caller id function work?
b)do i still get the same rates? and can i call speakout free?
thanks

A locked phone means that only that particular provider's sim card will work in the phone. For instance, if you have a T-Mobile locked phone, then only a T-Mobile sim card will work in that phone, and not a Rogers or AT & T sim card.
An unlocked phone is just that, it's unlocked, and any sim will work in it. (As long as the phone uses the North American 850/1900 bands)
I would encourage you to read the home page of this site as well. There is lots of good reading about unlocked phones.

My car stereo has an auxiliary input with a standard 3.5mm connector. It's actually kind of cool. I put the phone on speaker (so the other party can hear me better), and run the audio through the stereo.

I'm not sure how video call display works, as I never used it. I imagine that a video clip can be attached to any number. When that number calls, that video clip will play. That's just my guess though.
The video call display can a be accessed under the settings menu. Press settings, then tones, then scroll down 4 spots, right under 'Ringing volume". Actually it's called "Incoming call video"

You didn't mention exactly who you called, but the ones I would call would be the 7-Eleven district manager, or 7-Eleven head office. I would call SpeakOut customer service as well, if you haven't already.
This site is not a substitute for SpeakOut customer service, not even close
We are all just customers like you.
This phone is known for less than par battery life. Are you using the music player/camera/radio quite a bit? Using applications (especially the music player) will drain the battery considerably faster than if you were just using the phone to make calls. Try another battery to see if that helps. I have seen first hand that some batteries that come in a brand new phone are defective. When Nokia mass produces millions of batteries, quite a bit of them turn out to be faulty.

Folks,
I need to comment on the battery life...
First of all, I have been observing the power consumption / battery life and comparing with other end-users experiences around. It appears sizable of us find it not quite stellar. Granted, heavy talking with bluetooth headset, listening to the radio, music or video playback will increase the power consumption. However, the 1020mAh rated BL-5C battery should not be this weak. Even the 1000mAh rated BL-4U for Nokia 3120 classic, with comparable features, is relatively better in GSM only mode operation. I would think there may be some bugs in the current firmware, perhaps.
Another potential contributing factor is rare but quite disgraceful... I know that some people have swapped the battery inside the new handset, then return / exchange it for another one. Supposedly, the staff should put the returned one aside. However, I have got those "previously enjoyed" ones before and several times I can tell the batteries have been swapped. In one case, the battery (BL-5CA for Nokia 1208) could not even recognized by other compatible Nokia handsets.
