If you are having difficulty accessing Internet / data services with the Nokia C3 on SPEAKOUT. Here is a step by step guide on how to configure the settings for your device manually.
Note. Speech marks(") are NOT to be entered into your device when performing these steps, they are only used to highlight the important parts of the changes.
Select "Settings" then "Configuration", then scroll down to bottom,
Select "Personal settings" to create a new preferred access point
Select "Add New", "Access Point"
Now click on "account name" and replace the Name in "My Access Point" to "goam.com"
Now click on "Access point settings" and "bearer settings" and modify the following only:
Packet Data access pt. – change to "goam.com"
User name – change to "wapuser1"
Password – change to "wap" and confirm the password again 2 X when asked: wap
3. Now associate your newly created access point to the goam.com configuration as follows:
Select "Menu", "Settings", "configuration", "preferred access point"
Select your newly created access point "goam.com"
*Everything should now work fine.
Note: DO NOT alter the now changed Default config. settings, that if you look, you will see nothing is selected….DO NOT change this, (back) up. Also notice under Web settings of Internet have changed, DO NOT change this, just leave it the way it is.
also if you forget these settings, ease of access to this settings info is posted at the 7-11 speakout website under:“What are the data settings for 7-Eleven SpeakOut Wireless?” listed in SUPPORT / FAQ here at this bookmark: https://www.speakout7eleven.ca/support/faq
yes, you can set your own settings for the Nokia C3, after much frustration as a newbie, i felt others would appreciate my faq finding mission success. Happy New Year everyone! Hope that makes your day brighter like it has mine

Thanks for that! I got a new C3 for Christmas, too. I took the SIM card out of my old phone and stuck it in the C3. I haven't set my account for the web browsing plan yet, but it seems to me I should be able to use it over my home wifi. It just doesn't work!
In Menu-settings-connectivity, I chose WLAN, available WLANS, my wifi and it said it was connected (Connection Successful). But when using the "OVI Browser" I just get "communication error". Opera Mini says "Failed to Connect to the Internet" whenever I try a net address.
I wonder if special settings on the router are necessary?

not much i can help then, probably a hard reset ? I no long have this device so all these are from memory.
EDIT:
BTW, get yourself a samsung gio/ace during boxing day/week if budget allows. I sold my C3 as even though it is still IMO the best non-smart phone device, the price of android phone has dropped to the point that make this of little use to me.

you may need to enter the APN even though you don't have data. The C3 is sometimes an odd device. the email/im app for example needs to have a SIM in order to work, the SIM can be invalid but must be there.
i would activate the WAP internet access with speakout, knowing these settings work, then you could upgrade firmware on the C3, and upgrade the other applications as well.
i know these WAP settings work for my updated firmware i recently changed, where i lost all connectivity with my speakout GPRS wap internet connecting.
a lot of my other apps do not work in the new firmware, so do a backup before changing firmware, if you want to go back to original. I upgraded the ebuddy after the firmware update, and it works, but most other apps do not work even with an update, not sure why, they just don't, but ebuddy and IM+ both work now on GPRS and wife at home, but not wifi hotspots, not sure why that is either....a security feature perhaps...

i love the C3, that uses the cheap $10 per month wap internet access, which is fast enough for email, and chat, really dread paying the super high price of data plans, if i want to watch video, i will watch it on my big screen home theater system with ultra amazing surround sound, and save the money for something else....although i do like the two way video calling....but the price of data plans, NOT!

Don't get me wrong, I like the C3 too and still feel more comfortable to just put it in my jean pocket(not so for my Gio/Ace). But Android is not just for watching video(never did that) and I found it to be more useful in many occasions. The push email/im for example trumps what the C3 can have.
I sold my C3(unlocked) for 40 bucks whereas my cost of the Gio is also only 40 bucks.
And I can still use the UMB on Gio/Ace, even better for some forbidden usage if I want to.

try upgrading the firmware and whatever other app updates via usb connection, just be sure to do a backup first.

There are many reports of the C3 not working over wifi over on the Nokia support discussion site: http://discussions.europe.noki.....88/page/10
There are lots of suggestions, some of which work for some people. None worked for me. I do not have the problem of it failing to ask if I want to use wifi. It tries to use wifi but after trying for 30 seconds or so to load a page comes up with a network error message. Starting several years ago, they are telling people to update the firmware to solve their problem - just get version 4 and you'll be okay. I have version 8.63. An attempt to update triggered a demand for a code. How does one obtain the security code for their phone? I have no password locking the keyboard, so it can't be that code. I did try a blank code.
Some users report that their wifi works with some routers but not others. Perhaps that is my problem. I did try two wifi routers but both are the Gigabit routers provided by Telus, one with no security, the other with WPA PKIP.
Folks considering buying a C3 should be aware that it may not work with wifi.
I finally paid my $10 for the data plan and that worked right away. Gmail setup was trivial and viewing/sending email works very well. I can't say the same for web browsing. The display is just too small for all but the simplest websites. If mobile email is worth $10 a month to you, the C3 is a good buy. Its antenna must be a little better than the basic Speakout phone - I get an extra bar of signal with it.

the security code is defaulted to '12345'. it would be asked if you do a factory reset as well.
C3 is a perfect messaging device(email/im/facebook/twitter and I feel the keyboard better than the 9300 I tried) but anything else will become frustrating due to the small screen and the navigation(BB's optical pad is much better).
Another thing concern me is the services are actually done through Nokia which I don't know how long they will run it.

I probably saw it in a bad light because my wife got an iPhone for Christmas and made the C3 look bad.
Also, I am not interested in those social networking sites. My idea of social networking is the senior's forum and the physicsForum. Forums just didn't work on the little screen. I sent my C3 back. Looks like I'm stuck with the $125 voucher I bought with the phone - they won't take it back. I hope they don't take its discount back!
I see older iPhones are available on ebay for prices under $200. I may give that a try. I sure don't want to carry a $900 one around in my pocket.

given my experience, I would avoid a slide out keyboard phone like the Q. And if you don't mind that and in the west, london drugs has a LG Shine Plus on clearance for 78 bucks. unlock code can be purchsed for 5 bucks on ebay.
it is a phone with high end spec(triband UMTS, 480x800 gorilla glass), but strangely a slow 600Mhz processor.

I was surprised to get a full refund on my C3 AND on the discounted $100 airtime deal that I bought with it from the official Speakout website. Both Speakout and CalAlta (who send out the orders for Speakout) said that air time could not be refunded but the CalAlta guy somehow made it happen anyway.
