Bought a Nokia C3 2 days ago, just for its wifi function. I tried it at home. It was successfully connected to my home WLAN, but the internet just does not work. I guess by default its setting is connecting through GPRS data plan, which I don't want to buy. I have searched online about this problem for 2 days, and find this is a notorious problem for C3. However, I tried many different solutions provided, but they just couldn't solve my problem. Now still I can't get wifi work on my phone. I even tried at McDonald - same problem. The wifi is connected and saved, but internet just does not work. Someone said an upgrade of firmware would solve the problem, but if I can't use wifi, I can't do the upgrade of ( I don't have a USB cable for the phone). My version is 04.60 31-08-10. Anyone can help me out? Thanks a lot!

By the way, is it required to activate the phone/SIM card before I use this C3?
I bought this Nokia C3 at promotion price, but I don't want to change my cell number. So I didn't activate the SIM card with the cellphone. I just put my old SIM card in it. Luckily I could use the new phone with my old card - no problem with making phone calls. But I just couldn't get internet working with my old SIM card in. Is it possible that I have to use the new SIM card to be able to use the wifi? If it is so, I think it's weird. I guess the wifi function should be a feature of the cellphone, and it has nothing to do with the SIM card. If you just want to use the wifi, you can use it just like an iPod touch. Am I right?

When I first started using my C3 at various free wi-fi locations, i found it a bit temperamental. At McDonalds, I could see the wi-fi access point, but could not connect successfully. However, after no success at various McDonalds locations, I went to one, turned off my phone, and then turned it on again at the McDonalds. For whatever reason, during that phone-boot process, it managed to sort out the connection properly, and it has worked fine ever since. Both the browser and the email client work fine.
At some free access points, it seems to work better if you use the browser first, because there is a "terms and conditions" box that you have to click on a welcome screen. If you try using e-mail first, sometimes you don't see that get to answer that question.
My phone's current software level is V 04.60, dated 31-08-10, RM-614. I'm pretty sure this is not the latest, and I do have the USB cable needed to do the upgrade, but right now, it's working fine for me, so I'm hesitant to upgrade. (By the way, I bought my micro-USB cable from Deal Extreme. SKU 43233, only $2.24 US, including shipping.)
All in all, I find the wi-fi function very useful, especially the email client, which I use to access gmail.

if all you want is accessing gmail, there is a j2me gmail app which is faster than Ovi Messaging. Though the built in one has mail notification capability(but is iffy at times). I now use the built-in client for notification and check email using the j2me client. Too bad I cannot find one similar for yahoo.

hey, I just picked up the nokia C3 at 7eleven and put in my SO sim card which I have been using with an older SO phone for years. Got the unlimited browsing add but I can't seem to connect. I called customer service and they said they do not guarantee the internet feature for their phones. They said SO only guarantees texting and calling features. I find this absurd. Why advertise phones with web features and offer browsing planes if they don't guarantee it will work?
This is extremely frustrating. I will probably return the phone and use my old crappy phone again for calling/ texting but if anybody has any advice it would be much appreciated.
**update: after playing around with the phone I realized the following: I'm able to use any apps/browsers that use WAP(or EDGE) but none of the apps that use 3G. I'd say about 95% of the phones web apps use 3G so they are all pretty much useless. I still find it so strange that they offer a phone that cannot be used properly with their network.
**SOLVED. turns out all I had to do was to set the phone's APN address to goam.com. Can't believe the customer service did not know that information.
