Just today, non-HTTP data started working (email, Dropbox, etc.). My understanding was that SpeakOut's data plan was proxied-HTTP only. Yay! Anyone know if this is temporary, something on my end, or the new way things are going to be?
Details: Victoria, Nexus S, Stock Android 2.3.6, Autoproxy: com.speakout.wireless

would be nice if some others chimed in on this. I would like to know what is going on and whether we should expect this "data" plan for good? Or if this is only happening in certain areas. It is nice being able to watch netflix on my iPhone, have hotmail, use voip, and be able to use all the features of my iPhone 4.

This has been answered in another thread, by SpeakOut themselves:
""In regards to the posting by Highroller on November 8, 2011 concerning SpeakOut and 3G service, the information relayed by the customer care agent is inaccurate. SpeakOut does have access to 3G service. There have been intermittent downages across the network, that and rollout issues that are affecting the service. However, since we do not currently promote or charge for the 3G service – it's availability has been and is a current bonus."

I'm not referring to just the 3G service, I am referring to the network not being under a proxy, and it wasn't mentioned. I followed that whole issue when the 3G was down in some areas, and that is what that post is all about, is it not?
Sorry, I misread your post. I think it also goes along with the 3G issue though. I'm sure Rogers is tweaking the network, and just like 3G, some things are working, and in other areas, it's still intermittent.

I have an AWS Wind-type phone that I understand also has the capability to access 2G service on SO.
Does that mean I can expect my regular data apps (Gmail, GoogleMaps) to work when I'm away from WiFi? (although admittedly slower)
I signed up for SO's unlimited browsing today but it doesn't seem to work at all. I'm not getting the "2G" icon along the top of my screen. I was using it before with APN "Goam", do I have to undo that first?
So, what I really want to know is; how do I configure my AWS phone to run SO's 2G data?

your Wind phone is just a quad-band GSM phone when it is on SO, very much like the C3 so you should get data but EDGE speed.
A correct APN is the only thing you need which you can find some where here. If it still doesn't work, you may have to call them as it was mentioned that sometimes, it is at their end.

OK, thanks, Chimp.
The APN is setup alright, same as before on Goan. But still no 2G icon is appearing.
But why should I have to call SO? I've already got my Activation Message from SO. Do they then have to activate data one sub at a time? That doesn't make sense. I don't understand.

Probably won't last forever if people like you are going to start using massive amounts of data by streaming video and making VOIP calls. Its always human nature to take advantage when something like this happens, and I'm sure people are posting info everywhere bragging about full unrestricted data for $10 a month.
My guess is that Speakout's proxy was causing some sort of bottleneck and slowing down service for Rogers regular customers. As a quick fix they've removed the proxy, but I can guarantee they are working on a less obtrusive measure, and that we will be back to 2G at some point.
That is my only issue with Speakout, that you can't be sure of what you will be getting tomorrow or the next day.

My feelings exactly.

Full 2G data working fine for me now here in Ottawa. Comes up with a little "E", for Edge, on my data icon.
Runs all my regular apps (but slooowly); Gmail, Endomondo, Google Maps, etc
Since I'm running an AWS Wind-type phone that's all I can expect on SO/Rogers, but I'm happy with that.
As long as they keep offering it, I'll probably renew it every month.
