My folks have finally decided that it's time to get a cell phone for emergencies and want to use the pay as you go kind of plan. I'm all for it, it means if there's an accident or a problem they can contact whomever to get help.

I have in my possession an old Motorola V60 I used back in 2002 / 2003 from Rogers that I was thinking they could use. They don't want anything fancy, just a phone that works and this one fit the bill. But the question is, can I use this phone on this network?

As 7-11 is piggybacking on the Rogers network I think they could but as I'm not up to speed on cell phone networks I was hoping somebody here might have the answer.

It should work as long as it fits a sim card. Your folks identity is tied to the sim card, not the phone. If you can't find where the sim card goes, then it might be a TDMA phone, then you are out of luck. As far as piggybacking goes, SpeakOut uses the entire Rogers network, so where's there Rogers coverage, you'll be able to use the phone.

I think it's worth a $10 sim card to try out.
