I'm buying an iPhone 4s just to use as a beefed up touch. I'm buying it over the touch mainly for the much better camera but I'm interested in a SIM card for when I rarely need to make a call over asking someone to borrow theirs or finding a pay phone. What is my best course of action here? Again we're talking literally only a couple short calls a month. I'm in Ontario (Niagara).

Yes it is a monthly fee., and will be deducted regardless if you use the phone or not.
It will fit the iPhone 4S, but you will need a SIM card cutter, because the iPhone uses a micro sim, or you can find someone to cut it for you.
Since you are new, I suggest doing lots of reading on the official site, and the home/faq page of this site.

Well with all due respect, as I'm only looking for service a few minutes a month, I felt a few minutes of research would be sufficient.
How do they charge you a monthly 911 fee if you just buy a $10 sim card in-store? How are they billing you?
Last question is the one that went unanswered, whether or not your minutes are used when someone calls you.

To use this or any other service, you should research more than two minutes
When you buy the sim card and activate it, they will deduct the 911 each and every month, even if you don't have a balance. For instance if your balance is $0, and you let it go for 6 months, they will deduct $7.50 ($1.25/month for 6 months) the first time you top-up, since your account is in arrears. So if you buy a $25 top-up, only $17.50 will be added to your account.
Lastly, it looks like you edited in the last question, since it wasn't there before.
The answer can be found on the home page of this site.

I've gone through the whole FAQ but still don't see if you're still charged minutes if someone calls you. I also specifically looked if there's a way to get the $10 for unlimited browsing and bypass the top-up voucher all together.
huh ? the voucher is the way you put in money and without putting in money, what would it mean for the 10/month UMB + 1.25/month e911 ? Free ride ?
yes, both incoming and outgoing calls are counted to your balance @ 25c a minute with minute charging(i.e. round up to minutes) and when you are below 1 dollar(forgot the exact probably 40 cents), no one can call you and you cannot make outgoing call other than the top up number. SMS also cannot go through.

Pathfinder I was saving my thanks once I was resolved and on my way.
To clarify I just wasn't aware there was a $10 a month browsing plan before making the thread. I'm just wondering if there's a way to bypass the minutes/phone portion all together and just pay for the $10 a month browsing plan. I don't need the phone if I have the browser.

It's PAY AS YOU GO – if you don't call anyone and no one calls you, you don't pay anything. All that would be deducted from your account would be the $10 monthly browsing fee and the 911 fee.
I would suggest you call Speakout with any more questions – they are paid to answer these types of questions...

The money that you put into your account when you buy your voucher ($25, $50 or $100) serves to pay for whichever service you use - phone calls and/or web browsing. But, as mentioned, you will be deducted $1.25 per month whether you make a phone call or not. There is no way to avoid this charge.
Research well how you have to cut the sim card and set up your iPhone to work for web browsing. There are a lot of settings to put in your phone.

Yes. There is.
PAYO is just that you pay the service you use.
I am doing exactly that paying 10+1.25/month and no more on iphone 4/4s. But you need to deposit money(i.e. voucher or online) to pay for services you use.

From the Home/FAQ page on this site:
"Starting July 1, 2008, local outgoing calls and all incoming calls are 25 cents per minute (previously 20 cents per minute)."
All incoming calls are 25 cents per minute.

Can you link me to exactly what I need to purchase online if I plan to do the same chimpanzee? Also I know their network isn't fast enough for streaming but do you have any problems with just the basics? Does gmail work okay? If there's an ongoing thread for people that use this service specifically on the iPhone I'd like to check it out. I'd also like to find out if the talkatone app is blocked or not. I feel there's a good chance it wouldn't be as I don't think anyone in canada really uses it since most people take advantage of it that have free google voice numbers.

you are wrong. It is not WHAT IS BLOCKED but WHAT IS ALLOWED.
Basically, only HTTP/HTTPS on port 80/443. No streaming, no talkatone, no VOIP, no iMessage, no facetime etc.
gmail/hotmail works though via exchange/activesync mode. UMB is for general browsing or any service that utilize http/https, nothing more.

Bell has a monthly plan that is perfect for you ... $40 a month and they COUNT on you not spending any time comparing it to other services
Your name is bellsucks, and you're promoting Bell? As the OP said, he only uses a few minutes a month. $40 a month? With SpeakOut, $40 can last a whole year.
