I am using a basic phone with SO.
Now my home internet contract is going to end, and I will be moving next month.

I decide to turn on the SO data plan to using the internet in the transition time, but I don't have a data capable phone.
what I need :
1, email + web browsing
2,Wifi
3, GPS with voice indication on turn by turn
4 Radio

Can you recommend a phone? I have a tight budget, so it needs not to be latest model, even a used one should be okay.
thanks

iPhone 3GS. If you don't care about the condition you can pick one up fairly cheap. I bought a 32GB mint condition model last week for $240 of craigslist.

You'll have to buy a GPS app for audio turn by turn. Sounds like you want a top of the line phone for under $200. Good luck, any smartphone capable of doing what you want had a retail price of over $600 and would be no less than 2 to three years old. Unless the phone has been beat to crap, I dont think you are going to find a phone with all those features for that kind of money.

I have never owned a phone that could be considered even somewhat "smart" by today's standards, so I have no personal experience with this. With that said, what about the Nokia E71?

You could google those features and see what comes up, or try a site like GSMArena.com

and I remember I read a member's post about the using of SO data plan.He just use that way.

I may dig out his post.

thanks a lot.

You can get lucky if you watch for items on kijiji. I just picked up an Incredible S recently for $120, which would do everything you need except the radio.

I think pretty much any newer phone from Rogers, Telus, Bell or their alternate brands should work, as long as it is possible to unlock it. With Bell or Telus, you would want to make sure the phone takes a sim card to make sure it isn't a CDMA phone.

I am gone for one day and....

I like all these suggested choices above. Your choices will pretty much mirror your budget and the time you have to get the phone.

I currently use a Nokia E71, and it can easily be got at kijiji for $60, (get a Rogers E71 or unlocked) but it has a small screen, and the user interface is an acquired taste. It has amazing GPS options, really good turn by turn.

I have seen decent prices on newer E5 and E72, faster cheaper, better than the E71.

I never wanted to pay the money required for the iphone, and even used it is a bit expensive. It is a great phone though, and probably the best choice for Speakout if you can spend the money.

If you are looking for a new Android phone for a good price, the prepaid Bell Galaxy Gio seems to have most of the features for under $150, at the right sale, under $80. It has to be unlocked, but that can be done for less than $10.

Bridonca,

How about the Samsung Galaxy Ace from Koodo?

One guy said that now using their tab thing could get a phone under$100, they give you a $100 gift card something.

I am not sure if it will work with the 10/M plan here.i heard the unlocking is easy and free sth.

thanks

The Galaxy Ace is a very good choice for a low end Android phone. I had a hard time figuring out the deal Koodo had, but if the deal makes sense to you, you will end up with a decent phone.

As for the free unlocking, read all the latest tutorials you can find. I bricked my Galaxy Gio this summer, but since then, they have better free tools for unlocking. The Gio and Ace are very similar if not the same phone with a different nameplate.

Today went to BB shop, the $100 gift card deal for the ACE is sold out just hours before.
and the superstore they have $75 for ACE, I like their gift card cause I like grocery more than gadgets, LOL., I am outdated long time ago.

FS have the deal for boxing day.but for their Gift card, it is also not big use for me.

thanks

with today's lineup, I would not go the route of 3GS(thought about that at beginning of the year).

My Gio/Ace is netted to ~80 each. Get a iPod touch if you really like i* and iPod Touch has much better screen than 3GS(it is iPhone4 without the phone). Together we are talking about 250 dollars and you have two devices.

yea, I know the ipod touch thing ,but it needs wifi to surf. I even saw the ipod touch dock pesonally back in
Shenzhen China, where most of the Iphone are made.
I need a low cost multi function device which is easy to operate.
GPS and email are must and I don't use phone much , so the SO $10/M should be perfect for me.

I use a Nokia Nuron 5230 – Good screen. No wifi. Email through gmail. Good GPS built in and free. Cheap.

Bought a t-mobile version and after activation and having a balance they unlocked it. But you can get unlocked ones right off of course.

I just went to PC mobile shop, got the Samsung galxe ACE.
The price is $150, but they gave me $100 gift card for PC, Nofrills.etc.
activated at the shop, chose the minimum plan $15/Mon, will cancel it in one or two week.
Total cost would be 50+10?=60 sth.
should be a good one ,but only came with 4GB card.
