Hello fellow Speakout users,
I just want to report that I am getting the super fast 4G data on the new 100MB data plan with Speakout!
I had been using Speakout's UMB for the past 2 and half years with my LG Optimus One, and had been generally very happy with the service until the LG phone died a couple weeks ago. I since acquired an unlocked T-Mobile edition of Samsung Galaxy S4 aka SGH-M919. The main reason to choose this model was because it was able to support more frequency bands than any other models of S4. In case I'd want to switch to the other "low cost" mobile service providers, such as Wind or Mobilicity, this model will be compatible with their networks.
I cut my Speakout SIM to the micro format using a template from the web, and configured the APN by following the instructions from the Speakout site. At first, I could only get the voice service. I tried a few combinations of the other parameters but couldn't get the data working. I put the SIM into my wife's LG phone. Sure enough, that phone had data service. So I started to have doubts on the compatibility of my S4. Then I inserted the SIM back into my S4 and went to bed thinking I might have to switch to Wind Mobile.
The next morning I casually glanced at my S4 and was greeted by the 4G data indicator by surprise!
I tested all the internet services. Everything was just working beautifully. I ran a speed test and got the following performance:
- ping: 130ms
- download speed: 8.20 Mbps
- upload speed: 0.85 Mbps
Some may laugh at me for putting a high-end phone on a budget-oriented service. But Speakout suits me well. I rarely make voice calls on my cell phone. I do use mobile internet from time to time. If there is a data-only plan I might go with it. So for now I'll continue with the Speakout data plan and see how it works out.
I took a couple screenshots but don't know how to post them.

I don't know how to post the screenshots directly, so here is the link to the 1st image showing speed test results.

Asides from email, is there anything else that is essential?
For browsing, I recommend opera. A 1mb web page can get compressed to as little as 10kb
Where I am it's almost tempting just to get a shaw internet connection and get a free passcode to any shaw public open spot and program that into my cellphone so it can poll these 'shaw' public spots.
