On a samsung gio
Is there a way for the typing text on the screen can it be made a bit bigger..

i saw it said something on the fonts – do we need to have a data plan to down load the fonts from the internet?

Thank you again for all your help

there are a number of alternative keyboard in the Play store. I installed the google IME. May give it a try. I don't like the samsung version.

You don't need data plan, plain wifi is fine. But you do need a google account for downloading anything from the store. Most things are free(well I haven't paid a dime yet).

If you turn your phone horizontally, the keyboard will be much larger. Also, I like to use a stylus from Dollarama, the kind with a large mushy rubber tip.

I don't spend much time on my cell - a little texting, the occassional call and some photos. SpeakOut has been great for me because it's affordable ($100 lasts me about 8 months and I pay for monthly internet access out of that.) but I currently have a Samsung Gravity and it really is time to upgrade. (I don't have many expectations, but even getting email is a pain with the Gravity, I can't send a picture to anyone and surfing is hit and miss...Or "crash or load?!")

I like the sound of the Gio (And am hoping that if Adrian says setting it up was "doable" then I may be able to manage!) but am I correct in thinking that I would have to get my existing SIM cut down in order to use it in a Gio?

Hi

Please let me know if there is a way of blocking a number that keeps calling me on the above phone

I first answered the call as i knew it is long distance and told them it was a wrong number but now it has become an everyday call .

Today in 20 mins i got about 9 missed calls from that number

I do not want to download any software on my phone

Thank you

i know people with the iphone do the trick by setting a 'silient' ring tone though no way to really block it AFAIK without rooting etc. So the missed call will still be there unfortunately, just less annoying.

Thank you chimpanzee i phoned my service provider and after being on the phone for 1/2 hour she said she will do it for me - very kind but we got cut off - hopefully it is taken care off.

I thought that there may be other ways of doing it - as i have learnt alot from this forum.
thank you again

Assuming you are using an Android phone, you can add the number to your Contacts and then tap on Menu or Settings and select Add to blacklist. Voila, no more calls.

Some Android users need several other steps to get to the Add to Blacklist.

You have to go to Settings > Call > Call rejection > Auto reject mode, and finally set “black list”

WetCoastGuy i tried but my phone does not have some features to block numbers

I also phoned my service provider as i have call manager which was added just yesterday, and they said to go on their chat website and they told me to give them permission to connect with my computer to see if anything is blocking these features

I did not feel comfortable and then they said that they would add the numbers - i do want to learn how to do it as much time is spent being on the phone with them

Anyway i will go to another computer terminal and try it out - perhaps my computer is blocking some info coming in. - as on my computer i cannot see the numbers being blocked.

Thank you again

not on my ray either. based on google, there are apps doing this(requiring root) so it is most likely not stock android feature.

just make you wonder how come a smartphone is not smart enough to have this basic feature, apple included. No wonder people keep on saying iPhone is just a computer with phone function tag on(i.e. who cares according to Jobs).

Looks like this feature is particular to certain flavors of Android by the phone manufacturer. I use a Samsung Galaxy W, which has it right out of the box and no need to install.

In versions prior to Android 2.2 you could add the number to Contacts, select the number and edit its information to automatically send calls or texts from that number to voicemail. Not sure whether your flavor of Android still has that option.

Chimpanzie "computer ? what has it anything to do with computer ?"

am not sure i explained myself well...

Thank you for your posts - rogers has call manager so one has to go online and do the blocking and as i could not even see the numbers on my screeen they said i should use chat and they wanted to do some remote viewing and wanted my permission to look into my computer as to why it is not allowing me to input the blocked nos.

They said i must do it online only

Yes it is a pity that we could not do it directly from our phone itself.

Thank you to you and WetCoastGuy for helping and the others on the forum

Hi
I was wondering if anyone has come across why samsung gio phone goes suddenly into a black screen.

I changed the screeen timeout to 2 mins .

Also when it goes blacked out i press the centre button to see if the screen comes back up but it does not and then i have to keep pressing the on/off switch to bring it back on.

Anything i can do to fix this problem
thank you for your time.
