Just wanted to let others know.

I was looking for a phone with a full keyboard for texting to use with SO and I found one.

The Samsung Hype from Rogers -- a PayAsYouGo phone. Got it from Walmart for under $75. I slipped my SO SIM card and it works like a charm. It's a very good phone and does Bluetooth -- which I wanted too. Got my 2 $100 bonus vouchers + a free 1661 and I am now set for 2010.

I am happy.

Note the Samsung Hype is available this week (Dec 11-17 09) at Zellers for $59 and comes with a handsfree headset. Its a Rogers pay as you go. You may be able to get an extra 10% off with coupon

Ok, I bought a Hype price matched at FS for $46 based on the Audio Video 2001 ad. Great deal, works perfectly but... from what I can tell it's a dumbed down version of US based Samsung Magnet (at least it has an email client!).

Pros

- Great phone sound.
- Nice display.
- QWERTY keyboard for texting is the biggest pro of this phone.
- Works perfectly with SO.
- Nicer to use than a 1661.

Cons

- No email if on SO data plan.
- Barely any more features than a 1661.
- Brutal camera.
- No expandable memory.
- No MP3 or FM.
- Bluetooth for remote headset ONLY, not for syncing with PC or other uses.

There may be other benefits to this phone but I couldn't say. It's a budget phone after all. I have not tested browsing but it's WAP so can't be all that great.

For the $46 it may be worth waiting a bit longer for the 2720, but am not sure it comes with an email client. Will test it once it comes out on the 18th (famous last words, lol). Flip phone is a plus, no qwerty for text a minus, otherwise the 2720 seems to have more features than the Hype.
