Hi All,

I currently have a s3 waiting to be used with speakout, however, as most of you know.s3 requires micro sim. I have read people have had success with cutting the sim (either with cutter or DIY).

My question is not regarding how to cut the sim, but rather to the sim card it self. It seems my speakout sim's gold plated part (section), is much larger/longer then my other sim (mobilicity/rogers sim). If i cut it to the size of micrco sim, its going to be mostly the gold plated area.

So my question ends up being, if the gold plated area, is that much longer? will it effect anything? or if all other people that have cutted their sim have longer gold area and they just do it anyway.

Thanks and Regards,
Kevin

That part of the SIM does not seem to be used and is safe to cut it. My SIM was cut that way and my phone continues to function. Good luck.

i used this it worked great but make sure your printer is set to 100% mode, your sim should be exactly the size of the template one, and it works great, just use some really sharp sisors and also take your time even if it means cutting a tiny bigger and file it down.

Id advise doing it manually. I paid $15 for a sim cutter and it wasn't even close after I cut it. Luckily I was using an extra SIM card. I did the second one manually and it worked perfectly. I then did my actual sim manually and again it was perfect.

i ruined a first sim card trying to cut it and now I just got a second one and got a friend who works at a Rogers store cut it with sim card cutter for me. I get home and put it in and it still says no sim card. I am discouraged. Can anyone help me out? I am going crazy.

P.S. It is for a Nexus 4

nexus is very picky on the sim, you need an almost perfect cut but unfortunately many cutter has still quite some room of error, a matter of luck !

Based on my visual observation, it seems that the ones that work have the metal closer to the edge(i.e. cut more), that is referencing the 'cut out' side.

So you may want to slightly cut away a bit more to see if it works.

by the cut out side do you mean the side where the corner is cut? not on top but on the side?

Just looking at the cut I noticed that some of the gold part at the botton of the card was cut by the cutter. Would that explain it?

yes, I meant the side with the corner(with the matal facing me). The only visible slight different between my not working sim and the working sim is that I have 'more' space between the matal and the side(left).

Not 100% sure though as I am not interested to test since I have other SIM that works and this 'non-working' one can be used in my iphone as well.
