My requirements for usage - as Phone, Texting, GSM phone whcih i will be unlocking, and Receiving Pictures. - Good battery capacity. - Prepaid

I had a GIO - did not function properly.

a samsung ace is a rebranded Gio for the most part.

I currently do not see a low priced Android phone that I like currently, other than the Gio and Ray, both of which I own. If you see something else that interests you, let us know.

And trawl your local kijiji. There are tons of people willing to get rid of perfectly good phones because they need cash or the phone is no longer the latest and greatest. That is where I get my stuff.

I would say telus refreshed 4s @ 350 + tax, then pay 60 bucks to unlock.

yes it is a bit steep in price but reasonable for what it offers as it can easily last 3-4 years and will still be able to fetch 100+ by then IMO.

Otherwise, I would stick with ray.

Thank you Brindonca and chimpanzee for your suggestions.

I do want simplicity and i do not have much knowledge in cell phones.

I have seen many on kijiji and if i get one and it turns out with problems i would not even know.

I would just buy a new one with a touch screen and that syn writing feature which i loved in the Gio and in Ray.

And a prepaid phone and i would unlock it. Which goes against the warranty of the manufacturer and then they charge me to fix it if there are any problems

Yes i would let you all know if i see a good deal.

I recently picked up a LG P690. It's a basic smartphone, but I like it.

Hi rainforest,

At the same Kijiji you recently listed your Gio at (we're almost neighbours!) I bought a software unlocked 32 GB iphone 3Gs (Nbr) for $60 and a 16 GB software unlockable iphone 3Gs (Obr) for $150 and love then both with my 587 area code SpeakOut sim..

thank you iamdrumming and TinHatter thank you for your input

TinHatter hi nice to know we are neighbours

Thank you i will just wait to see what goes on sale i still have a phone SE so will be with it.

If you know of any basic smartphone out there - so the if i see it on sale i could get it then no 3G or iphones as it would be a wasted gadget in my hands when i do not use any of the features to make it worthwhile.

thank you

If you are willing to go through some hoops you can get a new Samsung Galaxy W (3.7" screen) for about $50-$75 net. How?

Buy from FS or BB on a Virgin Mobile no contract monthly plan on SuperTab for $0 and received $75-$100 gift card from FS/BB.
Before the month is up, call up Virgin and ask to switch to Prepaid. No termination fees.
Virgin will bill you the SuperTab price for phone of $150.
Unlock phone online for $15 on FastGSM.com and you're good to go.

$150 SuperTab – $100 gift card + $15 unlock = $65 for a nice working phone on Speakout.

It doesn't have to be Samsung Galaxy W but the W is the lowest price one from Virgin.
