Sorry,

I'm a bit cellphone illiterate. If I buy the Nokia C3, can I use the browsing capability whenever I'm near a wifi hotspot, without paying the browsing fee?

yes but C3 is not a good phone for that. screen is too small, navigation is too slow(imaging use the arrow keys to move the cursor). I used it only for very occasional things.

Get a touch screen phone with higher resolution(C5?) if you want browsing.

If you use Mini-Opera supplied with the C3, the browsing experience is really good as it relies on some of the number keys to provide various functions (eg. #8 to scroll down). The fonts are much more legible than the Wap Browser.

i have tried not just the one come with it but also the newer updates(from ovi store which are better than the stock one) and no, it is not good. Not comparable to my Optimus One or iPhone 4.

But that is a personal thing.

Well you are comparing a $60 C3 to a $500 iPhone. What do you expect? The C3 is excellent value for the money.

first optimus one is around 100 dollars. it was on sale and can be had for 60-80 dollars.

second, i was just saying that the screen is too small and the interface is not optimal for browsing. Just try to take away the mouse/touch pad of a pc/laptop and see if the keyboard only interaction fits.

of course I know C3 is a good phone. I kept it and sold my optimus one but that doesn't mean that it is good for browsing. occasional is fine(I even install the google map app and it is fine too).

IOW, if one's main purpose is browsing, C3 is not the right phone. Optimus one at similar price point is much more suitable for that. battery life is a completely different story and touch screen is not for heavy texting. I happen to text a lot(email, im etc.) and C3 is a better phone for my purpose.

and if it is not for the bigger screen in iPhone(vs optimus one), I don't see the iphone as that much better. I kept it because it is given to me for free.
