SO SIM card with Samsung D900: No service

Hello,

I recently picked up a speakout phone and sim card, but I was planning on using the SIM with my samsung d900 instead of the nokia 1661 it came in. This doesn't work though, the d900 is unlocked and accepts the SIM, but it displays 'no service'. The nokia 1661 works just fine with the SIM, so I know it's not a lack of signal. Any idea what's going on?

Thanks!

1) Does your phone capture the proper GSM frequencies for Canada?
2) Are you sure it is unlocked?
The SO SIM card I just purchased is working fine in my unlocked Nokia quadband phone purchased in Europe.

3) Is it possible that your Samsung phone, even unlocked, is not compatible with Speakout? Do other features than the GSM frequency matter? I don't know but maybe other people on the forum can answer this.

The D900 phone is definitely a quadband GSM, so that shouldn't be a problem.

The phone is still branded for a carrier, but it was advertised as unlocked when I bought it, and it doesn't offer any error messages when I put the speakout SIM in. It recognizes the SIM, displays "Speakout" as the network, but then only ever has 'searching' or 'no service' as its status. All the rest of the phone functions work fine.

As for other features required by speakout, I don't know myself. The only thing I can guess is that the SIM card from speakout might be a newer version than the older phone can handle? (if so... bummer!)

Thanks for your help.

Ah, figured out what the problem was.

I had thought the phone was set to autodetect what GSM bands to use, but it was not. It wasn't set to use 850/1900 that speakout uses, and now it is, and now it works. Cool!

I am hoping this helps me. My problem is a bit different. I have an HTC Touch Hd. It worked perfectly with the SO sim until Christmas Eve. I was messing around with some settings and there are MANY in the Touch Hd. Something I did [I assume] caused the "no service" error message with me. I am looking at my settings again but I have a feeling that something else is causing the problem.

I did get a new phone with my $100 card and for some dumb reason [being an experimenter] I put the card in to see if I would still have service. Then I realized that was not smart and put the other back in.

I do not remember exactly when the no service appeared but it was the day before Christmas as I see my wife's incoming calls trying to reach me but I never got them on the 24th.

Can anyone shed any light on my problem.

Thank you so much "iamdrumming" for setting it up [I guess I am making an assumption there. But thanks anyway and

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP !!! (:-)
There. I feel better even if my phone does not.

"no service" What can I do to get my service back? I checked with customer service who did a reset online. I also asked about minutes left. I had 34 minutes left. I cannot activate card until my phone works again.

Right now it will have to be a high-priced ipod-gameplayer-businesssoftwarre-using but NO SERVICE phone. Not yelling, just frustrated.

If anyone wants to contact me I am at charles@cpedley.com [i know i am not supposed to do that but I am VERY protected.
