Hi Andrew. I did that as well and still no luck. I've turned wifi off. If I tap safari it says "could not activate cellular data network". On the top left I can see Speakout 3G with 3 bars.

From your description, either your APN is not set to goam.com or you do not have UMB on your account.

Hi all. It's been a more than a month that I've been using speak out UMB and has been no problems until recently. It has been asking me to update to IOS 5.1 which I have been ignoring. I've noticed that it no longer give me instant alerts from my gmail and text messages. Would that be the reason to update to IOS 5.1? Or is there something that I have misconfigured my phone? Many thanks.

SpeakOut never officially offered 3G data, ever.

Anyone having any issues at the moment?

My iPhone worked fine in BC, moved to ON and it still worked fine for a month but now it seems to have stopped allowing 3G.

I've tried resetting the APN settings, a hard reset of the phone…nothing.

EDIT: Could it be because I updated to iOS 5.1.1?

Just subscribed for the Speakout web browsing on my HTC Android phone. Configured APN on goam.com and proxy. Edge (2G) connection only. Purchased a new SIM card (also had to buy a $25 voucher). My old card had W0.2 at the end of the card number, the new one has B009.

Called SO to transferred my existing account to the new SIM card. After switching the SIM card, I am still getting Edge (2G) connection. I am in Vancouver.

Should I call it "Nice try"? Anybody is still getting 3G in Vancouver area?

is your phone compatible with the 3G network ? A common issue is it is targetting europe/asian market and vice versa.

Also, I assume you have enabled 3G data.

not sure if HTC is the same, try dial "*#*#4636#*#*" and check what network it is connected to.

Note in general, these have nothing to do with whether you have data enabled. I use my Gio(NA version) in Asia and naturally it connects only with the GPRS/EDGE network.

EDIT:
my iphone4s still connects with 3G as usual with very good speed, ping time is usual, bad.

It is HTC HD2 US version with Android Energy ROM installed on it. The phone is 3G compatible (HSDPA 900 / 2100).

Somehow your command takes me to the quick settings on my phone. But the system clearly reports Edge as the network type. It is set to automatic. If I force HSPA mode, I don't have any connection at all.

I understand 3G is a bonus depending on your SIM card, 3G availability and SO will.

That is exactly the issue. Canada is 850/1900. 900/2100 is in general for asia/europe. WIND is 1700 + 2100.

So it is not SO's problem, but your phone is not compatible with NA 3G network in general. This is the same situation back to the GSM days when asia/europe GSM phone doesn't work at all in NA and vice versa, except for the so call tri-band GSM(usually the higher price model), except it now applies only to 3G.

EDIT:
let me stress again, whether you can connect to 3G or not depends much more on the local tower and your phone BUT not SO. I have never connect at EDGE except once inside a big london drug where the 3G signal cannot get to and then it shows EDGE. I always get 3G for the phone(s) I have in vancouver.

I see, thank you!
Are you getting 3g speeds with your phone? I heard SO throttle the bandwidth.

my usage is low (~250-500MB/month) so can't tell. Speedtest gave me 6-8Mbps down, 1-2Mbps up so perfectly fine.

My results are strange: 0.07Mbps down and 12.82Mbps up. Used free speedtest.net application from google play store. Tested a few times, the results don't deviate very much.
