hi all,
because of the current promotions running, i bought a c3 speakout phone and decided to try out the umb. for the most part i'm rather happy with the phone but i'm having some issues with the umb which i'd appreciate someone clarifying for me.
i've tried to find the answers in the forum (so forgive me if this has been answered), but there seems to be conflicting reports as to what should be available (this is excluding the 3 month data free for all where everything seemed to be working). some posts say that browser only will work and others claim "Finally, after realizing others were able to get the native apps and email to work, I called customer service and within minutes everything worked."
i seem to fall into the first camp with only the browser working.
https://www.speakout7eleven.ca advertises "Social Networking (Facebook, Twitter)" and "OVI Mail (free email account)". i assumed this means via the "community" and "mail" buttons as they are default. and it seems like the ovi mail is only accessible via the mail button. using any of these returns a communication error.
customer service hasn't been much help to my specific questions, they won't tell me definitively whether i should be able to access these or not. they just say they're going to "send a message to the phone to fix itself" and ask me to remove the battery for 5 mins. so far no change.
i can totally live with just being able to use the browser, except for one big thing, whenever i try to access the facebook website (http://m.facebook.com) in the browser, i can see the login but when i type in my username and password nothing shows up. if i ctrl+a to highlight it, i can see the text i've typed but if i click off the box and go back to it it's disappeared (entering text and submitting returns an error, it's like it's not being submitted). has anyone else run into this problem? i've tried facebook's suggestion for clearing the cache and not using bookmarks to access the site (their suggestion for general login issues) and i've also googled accessing their regular site on a mobile and have tried all their tips and tricks but i keep getting kicked over to the mobile site. i think it's facebook issue rather than a speakout issue (i haven't had any trouble with any of the other sites and cannot login to facebook via wifi either).
btw, i can only get one browser to work via speakout, which ever one linked to the "internet" button. the opera mini, ovi browser, and a more recently updated nokia browser i downloaded do not work.
any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I have a C3 and have tried all the various stuff you'll find in here about making other things work. None of it has worked. The built in Nokia browser is all that works and it is pretty lame. For instance hyperlinks that open a new browser window usually don't work. Making bookmarks and organizing them into folders is a major PITA. But it lets me access my webmail from my ISP and that's good enough for my needs. The phone itself is flaky, I've had mine just totally crap out for no apparent reason requiring a full re-install of the OS via Phoenix. I gather that the C3 version of Symbian (40) is not great I am watching for an E5 which is Symbian 60 and supposedly a better unit. Don't expect much more from the C3.
Edit:Some people seem to have trouble getting WiFi to work on this phone but I have found it to work fairly well. Only thing is that the built in browser won't work with WiFi, you have to use Opera so any bookmarks have to be done over there as well. Not user friendly at all. But the other apps, like Mail, will work on WiFi.

I have a Nokia C3 device and here's what worked for me: using the Opera mini browser I navigated to http://www.facebook.com. Arriving there, I saw that atop the page was a link to download Facebook Mobile which I clicked and followed through to completion of the download. IMPORTANT: the application downloaded to my "Games" folder, accessible via the Main Menu on the device. So that`s where I go now to launch Facebook - not the "Communities" tab on the Home screen (a tab that always leads to an "Unexpected Error" connection failure). As I say, this work-around works for me.
