I have a slightly different 'theory'. They are in the process in selling LTE and contrary to common perception that it is the customer that would be benefited most, it is actually Rogers gaining much more capacity. As a result, we are going to see more and more unused capacity in the old EDGE/GSM and 3G spectrum as well.

This would result them lower the price they bulk sell to SO(unused spectrum means 0 revenue). So probably this may last a while, so long the 'customer' buy the argument that EDGE/3G are inferior to LTE(and I see this smart people say on RFD thinking LTE is the best thing since sliced bread).

Well, $10 buys you 100 MB of honest-to-goodness data from Rogers. That's not much, but it made the browsing-only option from SO look medieval in comparison.

I don't quite understand what you are saying. If not misunderstanding I would let you know there was no big difference functionally on iphone between SO's ULB and the robbing Rogers data plans, even before those changes happened.

So far, so good! Full Data still working.
Was running Google Navigator today. Worked fine including re-calculating enroute.
This is in addition to gMail and Endomondo (including maps and social updates) which were already found to work previously.
If this keeps up I may have to renew UMB for another month in the new year!

Since it was only $10 for data, I thought I'd try it out.

I noticed that all websites load, but the images look downgraded to a lower resolution on some websites. The websites appears different when on wifi compared to 3g.

Here's an example of a website with some pictures:

http://m.9gag.com

Does someone want to check to see if it's just my phone, my location or just the website?

Nexus S, Android, Downtown Calgary

I have the same experience. I think it is normal, since we are going through rogers proxy server. Methinks its a way to save some bandwidth for the provider.

try that site with https. The Roger proxy cannot process encrypted pages, so they look much better.

It just loads a blank page. It's a good site for entertainment but there are always other sites I can browse.

Either way, $10 for data is a decent deal.

I'm unsure if this is known on this forum but I read on RedFlagDeals that the proxy information can be omitted from your APN settings.

Fill in the name and the APN address and data is enabled without restrictions.

Without the proxy values, the images on the website that I was referencing prior are no longer down graded.

Wow. Thanks for that.

Connection is super fast after taking out the proxy!

Here is what bylo posted there and it works!

"Before you type in all that, try simply this:

APN: goam.com
MCC: 302
MNC: 720

That's all I've got in the APN on my Gio and it works just fine. "

Thank you, Bylo!

So, how long is this going to last? Anyone got any ideas?

I've just renewed my unlimited Browser/Data for another month. I'm really getting quite used to this!

So far, so good. But I'd feel a lot better if this was confirmed on the official 7-Eleven SpeakOut site.

I cant find anywhere to input mcc and mnc settings in iphone config utility.

edit. okay. it seems mcc and mnc is hardocded to sim. But what changes needs to be made on the config utility to be able use "bylo" 's settings?

edit 2: read some post to merely put in goam.com and leave out proxy and port 80.

Dunno how it works on iPhone specifically, that's how you do it on Android.

But, yes, the general idea is you don't have to go through the proxy anymore.

Hey, i was wondering what speeds i should be getting with this....?
it says 3g And H In the corner of my phone, but i am CERTAIN these are not the speeds associated with 3g and H.
The speeds im getting are usually between 500-2000kbps Sometimes going up till about 3500kbps.

Yeh, on my iphone I simply removed the proxy from the configuration. Photo now load a full resolution and I can once again download from the app store!

Signed up for "Unlimited Browsing" today and got "data" working on my Android phone (unlocked LG Optimus One) at HSPA speed! I'm in BC.
