Lost Data (UMB) on my iPhone after leaving Ottawa for a flight to Toronto (turned airplane mode on).
Had it for 2 months fine no problem. Cell reception was fine obviously in Toronto but no data. Has anyone successfully 'roamed' with the UMB? Seems silly if that was limitation. Now I can't get it back.
Tried the profile cert at unlockit.co.nz which worked for me last time, but nothing.
any ideas?

I was so excited to find out about this deal, then I realized that's it's not available in Quebec Any of you guys know if the Petro-Canada unlimited browsing equivalent is also unlocked and all?
Yes, UMB on Petro-Canada works exactly the same as on Speakout. I'm using UMB on an iPhone 4.

Are you guys in Quebec able to top-up using a Credit card with a Quebec billing address?
It seems the Petro-Canada would be roughly 10$ more (at least) monthly than the SO equivalent, so I'm trying to figure out if I could use an SO account easily while in Quebec (I know technically it can be done, but I'd like to be able to top-up myself on the web, if possible).

Really, I really didn't experience a huge difference between the proxied and non-proxied data. But be my guest, if you can find another provider that will give you unlimited 3G data for $10 without the need for an expensive phone plan.

I can still watch movies. Just cant download apps or use skype. Not a big deal, apps can be downloaded at home or work and I never really used skype anyway.

Personally I think it is a case of shady sales tactics by Speakout... What exactly would be the point of supposedly 'opening ports' only to close them again later?
I think they did this to lure in customers, which is a little bit dishonest IMO. I/we the consumer aren't all technically savvy or know all the details, we just want to switch on our cellphone and use it in a consistent manner.
I don't use my Speakout for streaming or downloading, it is my phone for work.... So when this morning I was left unable to access my work website or google maps (I didn't know what was wrong at first), then they left me in a bad situation with my job.
I don't like surprises, especially when my job is at stake.

Speakout's service will have worked exactly as advertised provided you are using a Speakout device. Nowhere does speakout say that they support 3G data, unproxied data, or smartphones. Nothing dishonest here. If you are going to play the "unsupported phone" game, you gotta roll with the punches now and then.

What advertised service is that, exactly?
I bought a sim card and put it into my cellphone, have been using it without issue. I don't remember being told that I was taking part in some temporary upgrade in data service that would render my phone almost useless, data-wise, without notice or warning.
Like I said, all I want is a consistent service, not something that works one day then, without warning, no longer works.

Speakout UMB Always has been stable and consistent, when you buy a unlocked phone you stick your simcard in, but your not done. You have to punch in the settings for DATA since the unlocked phone doesnt know how to connect to the proxied UMB server. That is why they dont give any techincal support for unlocked phones. if you had bought a phone locked to Speakout, putting in the simcard would work and data would work instantly....

I don't think you are getting my point, but I'm not here to argue or get into a debate about unlocked handsets, stable UMB or whatever.
For the record, I have no sense of entitlement to anything. But whether or not Speakout 'supports' non-Speakout handsets is not my issue, as clearly they allow it. If they didn't, they could easily block them completely.
My point is that they took away something that they were previously providing to me and they did this without warning. Did Rogers block some ports this morning? More than likely, but I don't pay Rogers, I pay Speakout.
Was I entitled to this open-port frenzy of data goodness? I don't know, I'm just a customer whose phone wouldn't work this morning when I needed it, and this happened without warning. Like I said, it is not for me to understand what portion of my data service that Speakout chooses to suddenly stop providing.
