I have an iPhone 4 that I am currently using with PC mobile. I am planning on switching to SO in the next couple days so I cut down the sim today and put it in my phone to see what happens. It is an unactivated Sim card, and the phone says NO SERVICE. I thought it should still give me bars. When I go to networks and try to connect to Speakout, it says "restricted". Is there an issue with my sim or will it let me connect when I activate it?
Reason I am asking is because I don't want to activate it and add money to it if my sim is screwed. Because then I will have to wait a week to get a new sim as I dont have any close 7/11's.
Thanks for your guys help.

It is my understanding that when it says "Restricted" it means your phone is locked to a carrier that is no the same as your sim card. If your phone was locked to Rogers, you could likely use the speakout sim. Your phone is likely a Bell locked phone, that's why you can use the PC mobile in it.
You need to jailbreak and unlock your phone in order to use it on the speakout network, or any other network other than Bell.

Thanks for your input "altadude". But no, my iPhone 4 is locked to Telus. I have a gevey sim interposer and have been using it with presidents choice with no issue. I have also used a Rogers sim in it with full capabilities as well as a Bell sim. The gevey sim works fine and I have not had a problem with any other sim i've tried to use. Im assuming it is because the sim is not activated, but just wanted to see if anyone else that has put an unactivated sim into their iphone seen NO SERVICE or not?
Thanks for your help.

I have put in an un-activated sim in my iPhone 3g and it comes up emergency in red. Only time i've seen restricted is if the phone is locked to another carrier other than the inserted sim. I do get NO SERVICE for about 2 or 3 minutes when I switch to my AT&T sim. It just take longer for that service to kick in I guess.
Only way to be sure is to activate the sim. If it won't work with the gevey sim, you can always sell the speakout sim. Hope it works for you.

I've heard many bad things about gevey sim. I have not experienced any of the issues other users have. I had the data plan with PC mobile and used it approx. 30 minutes a day. I never had an issue. I just activated a plan with SO tonight and have been using the data without issue after using the iphone configuration utility to set it up. Thats my experience with the gevey sim.
