My wife updated her iphone 5s from the original ios version that it shipped with to ios 10. I noticed that her speakout account started draining quickly at around the same time.
I finally got in touch with speakout customer support, and they told me that it's because facetime has been sending shortcode sms messages to 49988. Apparently it is because FaceTime uses that to try to get registered.
I'm not an ios user myself. Does anyone know how to stop this? She doesn't use facetime, so I'm ok with either getting her phone to register properly, or to just stop facetime from trying again.
Thanks!

Can you see if you can delete the app, or at least deactivate it?
I found these by googling:
