Does anyone know if a Telus iPhone 3Gs will work with Speakout? Like Web Browsing and the like. I see that people have had success with the model from Rogers. Aren't they virtually the same for but branded for their respective carrier?
Here are the spec's from the Rogers site (Speakout uses the 850/1900 MHz GSM Bands):
GSM Bands:850/900/1800/1900 MHz
HSPA Bands:850/1900/2100 MHz
Telus:
UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
This should work shouldn't it? Maybe with an unlock?

The phone needs to be unlocked to work with Speakout. Once you do that, the iPhone 3GS should work as a voice phone. If you need Speakout data, you would have to configure the APN settings.
I should add, most locked Rogers phones work with Speakout sims. Phones from other carriers need to be unlocked to work with Speakout.

Why would you buy a new Telus phone if you are planning to use it on Speakout (Rogers)? I would suggest that you get a Rogers branded phone as you wouldn't need to jailbrak or unlock your phone.
As for activation, once you jailbreak your phone, you unlock it. this will "hacktivate" your phone and bypass Apples activation process.
If you are still intent on buying a Telus phone, beware. Any operating system above 4.0.2 is not jailbreakable at this time, so you won't be able to use it until a jailbreak is released.
