I just bought an unlocked BB Z10 direct from blackberry and I'm trying to use the Speakout network.
However when I look at the mobile network settings I see "The SIM card is not compatible". Underneath is says "4g Voice only"
I have not yet activated data for the service, but I'm concerned that doing so is a waste of money if the SIM isn't compatible.
I googled the issue and found people changing the APN from the default ltemobile.apn to rogers-core-appl1.apn which I was able to do (hard reset keeps the new (rogers-core-etc) APN). But this doesn't remove the error.
Is it because I don't have data activated? Or is there something up with the card?
Thanks for any constructive guidance
John

See if this thread works for you:

Actually that is the one of the threads I referred to above in my original post. The concerns mostly changing the APN to get the data working. But there is no mention of a "The SIM card is not compatible" error message.
A friend at work suggested that it might be because I have not yet activated the data plan, and so the SIM card will show as not compatible for data services.
I would like to know if this is the case before adding the data plan.

It very well may be that you have to get the data plan first. The data doesn't require a "special sim". If your voice and text currently works on your BB, then the data should too as long as you have the right settings.
Even though SpeakOut customer service won't help with your BB specific problems, they might say why you're getting that message on it. I would give them a call.

PROBLEM SOLVED:
So based on the advice of another BB Z10 owner, I went ahead and put the Data plan on to see what happened. At first it did not work with the default "ltemobile.apn" in the APN setting. Once I changed it to "rogers-core-appl1.apn" as many others have noted here and on crackberry, and then did a soft reset, the data was working.
I should also mention that using the latest BBOS 10.1 release and the just released BBOS 10.2, I was able to edit the APN setting from the user menu in the mobile network settings. My phone is unlocked from Blackberry directly, so that may also be why that is possible, when others have noted this option is grayed out.
So the error:"This SIM card is not compatible" was due to data not being enabled and had nothing to do with either the phone or the SIM chip itself.
