Hi all,

I'd like to unlock my Nokia C3 so that I can use it with my T-Mobile SIM card when I go down to the US (a few days every month). I contacted Speak Out about this and they said "We are not currently providing unlock codes for any of our devices due to a technical issue with the code generator. Keep checking back." Any suggestions on what to do. I'm heading south of the border again in a few days and would love to be have this sorted ahead of then.

Thanks!

If you don't get it sorted out, another option would be to get a T-Mobile starter kit at a major retailer while in the USA, then just put your own SIM card in it.

Or you can try to get an unlock code online (eBay, etc)

Those starter kits are usually pretty cheap. I don't think you'll be getting an unlock code back from SpeakOut within your time frame of heading into the States,

Hi! Actually, that's how I got my T-Mobile SIM card in the first place, through a starter kit. Until now I've been using it with the "talk & text" phone that it came with, but moving forward I'd really like to be able to use that SIM in my Nokia C3 to be able to do some browsing while down there as well. Thanks though! Perhaps I'll try the route of getting an unlock code online. Any suggestions of trusted companies to go through?

I'm not sure. You can try Ebay, and find a seller with great feedback who can unlock a C3. I think there are some free Nokia unlock sites as well. Googling them might be worth a try.

Thank you both!

iamdrumming: I have Googled but there's so much there, not sure where to go and who is legit.

chimpanzee: Are you saying the Nokia C3 phone is not 'unlockable' via a third party?

i have tried three, all ends up cannot find the code and refund me. SO is such a small player than no one bother to do it(generating it i assume), rogers/fido i believe you can find third party

speakout gave me the code for free when they still did it. I don't think they do it anymore

Thanks chimpanzee! I contacted Speak Out again and they said they expect the issue with their code generator to be resolved in January, so I should keep checking back with them. Let's see!

You can unlock your Nokia C3 easily without the help of service provider through online itself .To get code visit this site; Wickedunlock.com.To unlock your phone specify your mobile IMEI number, country and network provider name to which it is locked and they deliver you the code within a short period.

hello shone,

Thanks for the suggestion. After entering the info asked for, I'm getting the following message: We currently do not have any unlocking services that are supported by your mobile phone.

Thanks anyway!

Hi sp1903,
You have not specified your current network provider to which it is locked that's why i can't be able to guide you in the right way sorry for the mistake

I would think you would specify Rogers as your network provider, not 7-11, as 7-11 uses Rogers network.

doesn't work, trust me. All the 3rd party I have tried thought it works and ends up refund to me after they actually tried to search for the code.

I thought that the C3 was unlocked (without checking - duh!) and bought a Roam Mobility SIM in the airport and tried to use it in the US earlier this week. When I realized my mistake I tried to get help from Speakout and they were completely unhelpful - just a boilerplate response and a suggestion to "contact Nokia". I guess I can't complain too much since it was my fault for not checking - but still...
Anyway, the roam mobility service seems like a good deal for short trips to the US. If anybody has suggestions on a (relatively) inexpensive unlocked alternative to the C3 I'd be grateful - something that's less clunky than the C3 at accessing wifi would be a bonus.

I agree with chimpanzee re 3rd parties.

I've also been trying with Speak Out via e-mail, but they keep telling me their code generator machine is down and to try back. I have been, but so far to no avail. Will keep trying! If/When I have any success, I'll let you all know.

The Alcatel they were giving away free was unlocked. I have one and it worked fine with a TMobile SIM in it. It works as a phone but if you want more than that, like web, email, forget it.

For what it's worth, a few years ago I bought a Rogers-locked pay-as-you-go Nokia C3, and I use it with my SpeakOut SIM. This past summer, I decided to get it unlocked, and I bought a code from cellunlocker.net for $7.99 US. Quick and easy. Too bad that SpeakOut-locked C3's are not as easy.

(I've been pretty happy with the C3, except that a recent software upgrade to ver 8.63 has somehow killed wi-fi access at McDonalds. But that's another story...)

Thanks bstreet71. I've got an Alcatel and will use it in a pinch, but it would be nice to get a basic unlocked smartphone that works with SO (without too much fiddling), has wi-fi access, and can do email and browsing. I've looked through these forums and elsewhere, but for someone like me without much smartphone experience, it's not clear where to start.
