Has anyone been able to unlock SpeakOut phones, particularly the Nokia 1661?

Not that I know of. The newer SpeakOut phones use a new kind of encryption, and are not able to be unlocked by the usual means.

I just unlocked a Nokia 1661 Fido phone that I got off ebay, thru cellunlock.net but
am having a problem unlocking a SO Nokia 2720A. I just called SO and they aren't giving
out unlocking codes.
My question is are they required to give out unlocking codes if asked???

I would think it's up to Rogers, since they use their network, and Rogers is the one that tells them to lock their phones.

2. Currently SpeakOut handsets are locked to the SIM card with the IMSI bearing the reference of 302-370 i.e. Rogers. So Rogers, Chatr, Petro-Canada SIM cards will work with the SpeakOut handsets. Fido (320-720) SIM card, however, will not work.
So would a unlock code for Nokia 1661 from Chatr work with Speakout?

To answer my own question, no. Cable unlocking seems to be the only way.

This is confusing. There's another post in which someone says (for a C3), you just switch SIM cards.
I'm just wondering what are good phones to get if you don't want only the 7-eleven store choices.
I don't want a flip phone and the 1661 seems too basic. I'd like it to have bluetooth.
The Nokia 2710, 2730.... look oksy... any other good choices? I need a phone I can unlock and/or switch SIM cards to get the Speakout/7-eleven vouchers.
Any ideas?

Most Rogers phones can run Speakout SIM cards without needing to be unlocked. As for unlocked phones, if the phone works on any of the North American GSM frequencies, the phone will work with Speakout SIM cards.

Regarding cable unlocking, check out this post of mine. I have an unlock clip i used to unlock a bunch of handsets (nokia models 1208, 1661 and 2320) successfully.
