I have been on SO for a year now, and just recently purchased a used Samsung Galaxy SII off of eBay. It's working great, but I ran into a problem on the weekend. I missed a call and someone left a voicemail for me. On my old phone, I dialed my own number and hit the asterisk at the beep and entered my password. Worked great. Now, I see the notification of the missed call and a voice mail. But when I try to do that on Android 4.1.2, it disconnects the call with a message of "Number changed by SIM: 2895551234* (where that number is my SO number)

Anyone know how to get voicemail setup on SO in Android?

Not sure how those phones are set up, but on all my phones I can hold 1 on the dial pad and the phone calls the right voicemail access number whch upon connection just asks for my password.

In my Nokias I can also manually edit the default VM access number if for some reason the default one wasnt working, I`d be surprised if there wasn`t something like that in your GSII settings.

You should be able to use any local dial in from the Rogers family. My most recent phone was originally a Fido and it`s default access number works too, the Netowrk recognized on the first try that it was a Rogers sub-brand SIM calling and i got access through that.

Holding 1 on Android also defaults to your voicemail. My voicemail number is setup to my own number. Using that method, or manually dialing my number results in the same problem.

What are the local Rogers dial is numbers? Does anyone know one for the Niagara (905/289) area?

Look on the home page page of this site. Read section 15a.

Thought this was a nice shortcut to the voicemail, but dialing " 1 " just gives me an error on the iPhone.

Still stuck. I read 15a, and I can get my voicmail by calling my phone from a land line, but that's not convenient when my only phone at the time is my cell. Has anyone ever experieced the call ending immediatly when you call your own number? I can see the voicemail icon in Android, showing that I have one waiting for me.

Voicemail worked with no problem with my old LG dumb phone.

Did you enter the phone number found in 15a into your cell phone?

Don't really want to make a long distance call. I did find another Rogers number. 1-877-643-7786, but it has only worked once for me. The other times I try it it just hangs when it asks for my phone number, then disconnects me.

The 647 area code number found in 15a is not a long distance call. Calls to/from Toronto from your Niagara based phone are considered a local call.
