It never ceases to amaze me that there are so many of you out there who feel that they have to cheat the system. Since removing the RSS feed from this section, it has at the very least given everyone a chance to get a code used, but it is very evident that the cheaters are still out there and are doing very well for themselves. Some of you are still sending codes without responding in the thread, and I have seen a definite increase in the number of people supplying codes with their first post (rather than stick to the rules, they create throwaway identities).

I guess this isn't surprising. When companies give away samples in downtown Toronoto, you will always see a certain number of people stuffing their pockets with as much as they can get. Don't they realize that for every extra thing they grab, on person will get nothing?

The moderators of this forum have been totally useless in regards to this problem. I've made posts that attempt to point out the cheaters, and to educate members seeking codes about how to make the system work fairly.

How do we make things better?

- Require a minimum number of posts to gain access to this section of the forum
- Require that codes be sent via PM, not email
- Require that the "requester" post the name of the supplier to close the thread
- Have a moderator for this section that will actually pay attention to whats going on.
- IP check for multiple identities and start IP banning the cheaters

For those of you that are trying to bend the rules I ask, do you really need $10 of airtime that badly? If so, perhaps you should rethink having a cell phone

As I understand, you can only give out 3 codes per month, and 12 per year. This forum allows you to share your code once a week, so why does the need arise to give out your code more than once a week? There are after all, 4 weeks in a month. Am I missing something here?

Simple, these guys have more than one phone. My wife has a SO phone as well, so I guess I could create a profile for her and get two codes a week, but I have morals and wouldn't do that. Although, the moderator's total lack of interest in this matter is starting to make me rethink that 🙁

Oh I see. Well I am not sure what to say or do. It's unfortunate that people must behave that way, I guess it's hard for others to resist the temptation of 10 extra bucks. But andreww, I still am not clear, even with 2 phones, or even 3, there are still 52 weeks in a year! 2 phones can easily get their 12 referrals each by the end of one year!? What's the rush?

There are many ways to scam people. For instance, Buy a used SIM card here for $25, then pump it full of $120 referral codes, the sell for $150. Easy $125 profit, and multiply that by 4 or 5 cards and you got a nice little business. They could also have a family of 4 or 5 people using SO phones. That would put their eligibility up to 60 codes per year or 5 per month. There was someone here a while back that claimed they were using codes to top up phones for the elderly at a retirement home.

Who knows why? It really doesn't matter though, the rules are clear and people continue to break them, and with no intervention from the people that run this site , it will just continue. Honour system only works if people have no honour to begin with.

Wow the sim card trick blew me away. I am sure just having a normal job would earn you a lot more money, much faster, and you would be able to sleep at night knowing you're not a scumbag. Unless the mods take action, there's nothing you or I can do. The main thing is, don't get tangled into these things yourself! In the long run, honest people always win 🙂 What's more important; 10, 120, 500 dollars now, or your character? Anyways, I am done here, I just hope all those on this forum who are abusing the system will stop, that's all I have the power to do and say.

I'm all for putting measures into place to make the forum more open and fair, but I'm not sure how effective these suggestions would be. For one thing, we can't require a minimum number of posts since new customers asking for referral codes will almost always have just one or two posts.

I'm not sure what good it would do to require codes to be sent via PM instead of email, but I'm also not sure how we would enforce that. Requiring that the requester posts the name of the supplier to close the thread also can't be enforced. We'd just end up with a lot of "open" threads.

IP bans are probably the easiest and most effective, but they're very easy to over-use. There are lots of legitimate reasons why more than one account might be coming from the same IP address. Ultimately, you'd probably need a dedicated referral/IP moderator anyway.
