Hi I'm a newbie here and just wanted to ask if it's normal for someone to PM you several times with invalid referral codes?
I originally requested a referral code in another thread but a certain person who shall remain nameless for the time being is sending me referral codes which are not valid and I think it's kind of rude if not totally annoying. Should I report this person to the web administrator, or is this kind of thing normal here or what?

My code was definitely a valid code.
I noticed that you had posted on another thread earlier today that you yourselves have a referral code to give out (ie. you are a referrer rather than a referree).
Someone else had posted that "I was told [by a SO CSR] that once a referral code is generated from a given phone number, that phone number will not be able to become the referee."
May be that is what had happened to your phone number.
So, I will now reclaim my code and have it available for another request.

kyso316,
You mean if I generate a referral code to give to someone else, then I can't USE a code FROM someone else ever again?
Just to be sure, I phoned customer service and they told me that's not true. So I think Peter's suggestion that people are sending the same referral code to a whole bunch of people is probably what's happening here.

May be so ....
But I know that my code was valid .... absolutely.

I think something may be wrong with their system. I requested a brand new code 3 days ago, and sent it the same day. He replied saying the code was invalid/used! I have no idea how that's possible, and my account wasn't credited either. I called SO, they gave me a new one, I sent it to the dude but he never replied yet. What should I do?

Joni, not sure what you are asking, but as you reported that you successfully applied a referral code supplied by me a few days ago, I think I know what your problem is. You can only use one referral code ever. You used mine (although I haven't checked) so you can't use one from anyone else. However, you can now call customer service and request a code. If you can get someone else to use it, you will be credited $10 on your account as well.
Hope this helps.

So why when I phoned customer service about this very issue did they tell me there was no limit? I specifically asked them this question before trying to use a second referral code, and they told me it was OK so long as I was a new customer within 15 days of a new purchase-----the "problem" is that people have sent me referral codes that have already been used, which I find to be unacceptable behaviour from people who should know better.

I am fairly sure that you misunderstood. I'm pretty sure that you can only validate one code upon activation of your phone.
OK but I specifically told the customer service rep that I had already redeemed a referral code and asked her if there was a limit to how many you can redeem and she said NO. Maybe she misunderstood my question? In any case, would the rep not be able to see that I already redeemed a referral code, especially considering I told her I had redeemed one, and then be able to figure out that's why I could not redeem another one?
This is maddening!
