I have had it happen. Fortunately $10 fixes the problem!
You have to make sure the battery is in the charger for at least 16 hours the first time you use it. You can significantly shorten the life of the battery if you do not do that.
Most phones do not do a battery any favours. They fast charge them, which again shortens their life span. You are better off getting an external charger, which can take up to 8 hours to charge. That means you should get a pair of batteries, so you do not have to wait for the battery the charge to use the phone, you can get the whole set up for under $10 on ebay.
Get 2 of these batteries. Yeah, they are that cheap!

Some batteries can only be charged up to 150 times. If you keep the phone on the charger, sometimes the phone is not smart enough to stop charging. Don''t leave the phone on the charger. Run the batteries down to nothing before you charge them.
Oh, one last thing, if you are not going to use they batteries for a long time, charge it first.

Good points. I think that is exactly what happen. I left the phone to charge over night, and that probably killed the battery. I just realize that this phone uses the same a battery as my last speakout phone, so I am good for now. Thanks for the ebay links though I should consider getting a 2nd battery.
