My own reasons for the choice (pros)
1. the phone was free
2. since i rarely use the phone it is cheaper than a plan
3. No activation or credit cards needed
4. Rogers network footprint
5. Use of this site for info gave me a good comfort level
6. 365 day expirey

My first con is a big one for me
1. Not usable in the USA
2. Limited choice of quality phones
