Thank you Tyronne, Chimpanzee and all others regarding using overseas
It seems my phone worked as i received a text message from my friend from overseas saying she received my message.
Adrian
Please let me know if the 5130 xpressmusic is quad band. There is a place where i live and they have 5130C xpressmusic and i wanted to know if it is quad band. My understanding is they come already unlocked but after seeing you message it does not seem like it.
Thank you all again

Yes is quad band, here is a link:
http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/f....._UG_en.pdf
This is from the above manual:
About your device
The wireless device described in this guide is approved for use on the (E)GSM 850, 900,
1800, and 1900 MHz networks. Contact your service provider for more information about
networks.
This phone is a pain to unlock if SO does not provide you with the code. If they do, than can be done ( see my post in the Review);
Check with the clerk or take a FIDO SIM with you.
I heard nothing about SO shipping/selling unlocked phones now. By the way how much is the phone now?
Good luck!

Thank you Adrian
for all the info
I am still debating if i should buy the 5130C xpressmusic as i just use my phone only to text overseas and take a quad band phone to use overseas.
So if there is any back to school spl with other companies then i will purchase one.
As this 5130C sells for 119$ and with the 100$ airtime it will be only 50$ so i will be spending 150$ on my phone. I already have another nokia simple phone which has close to 74 $ of minutes.
Thank you again

This is now on XScargo canada, link below:

If you want to spend like 150 plus TAX and the risk to not be able to unlock it , maybe it's better to spend 199.99 + TAX for the Motorola from above, unlocked and for sure quad band and Android...
I am just saying...
Cheers

Thank you chimpanzee i did go to walmart and the C3 to buy it out without a plan is 98.$ I am not too comfortable with that qwerty key board. Also i do not use a cell phone here only when travelling overseas so i am not a pro and wanted something a bit simple.
But i found a samsung galaxy 550 smartphone touch screen, it is global access, android OS. (i dont know what all these mean and not interested as long as it suits my needs) it was 98$ but it is on sale for 68$ until Aug 25
It is has the quad band but the carrier is bell and it is locked now i have to find a local person who will unlock it
Too bad unlike speakout who unlocks their phone for a fee now ( i got it done for free a few days before they annouced the fee) the other phones should provide this service.
Thank you for mentioning walmart that made me go there and saw it on the flyer.
Thank you to all other SO forum members for their kind help.

Thank you Chimpanzee i phoned around after reading your message and found some in my area who would do the unlocking
Omegacell they do it for $70 if that is the case i would return my phone
The link below says they will unlock for $20 but i guess they will give me to do most of it I did enter my IMEI number to see if they can unlock it and they said yes

There are some other local ones who quoted 30 – 40$

Rainforest, check out this site for unlocked gsm phones
http://factorydirect.ca/catalo.....38;page=60
The Motorola Razr at $49.99 should suit you well.
If you look at other models, just be sure to check the specs to be sure its quad band. I've bought phones from them in the past. They are usually refurbs and they've worked fine for me.

Me too unlocked my Nokia E71 phone from the Vodafone network and use it with the local GSM network in Spain. There are many sites providing unlocking codes. I got the unlock code from the TheUnlockSpot.com which is a reliable service unlocks the phone within 30 minutes and also cheap.

Thank you Chimpanzee I will wait with the samsung 550 until next week for back to school sale for other models and carriers but if nothing suits my budget then i will just unclock this. Yes you are right that it is hard to get the code to unlock bell. As one of the stores doing unlocking told me so. And if the store who told me it will cost $40 suddenly says it to more hours and will then ask me to pay $90 the it becomes an expensive phone. As one ofthe stores did tell me anywhere between 50 - 90$
i am not in favor or LG due to the experience we had with a few of their earlier models a few years ago
Thank you 46jimbo ---- for the link i had ordered by mail from the amazon website which i normally do and i for first time had a bad experince i never order electronics but i did order a cell phone a few weeks ago,the brand new phone said unlocked and quad band it was not so. Therefore am hesitant to purchase anything thru mail especially electronics. And the box came with another language so i did not know what was included in it.
Tyronne if you can please let me know what is the cost approimately to unlock thru that website if i choose to do that route then i would be glad to know.
Thank you again to all for the suggestions.

Hi
I was wondering if you all can tell me if it is easy to unlock a pctelecom phone. Or is it the same version of bell virgin mobile.
I purchased a phone from future shop a sony erricsson t715a it is a discontinued phone - all sent back as no storage space to keep them after new ones came in, they had only 2 phones the one i purchased does not turn on.
Future shop has another phone T249 it comes unlocked was intoduced by rogers in april 2011
I am debating to get this one or get the same samsung galaxy 550 (which i previous bought – carrier is bell) but this is now available in pctelecom.
Any difference in pc or bell carrier unlocking?
Thank you for your suggestion.

president's choice moible = virgin = bell = cannot be unlocked by third party and bell would not do it(even you want to pay).
Get Rogers which there are numerous third party do it for pretty low cost.
I still think Rogers/Chatr C3 being the best option price wise. speakout is fine but the extra unlock fee(30?) made it less attractive now. I was lucky to get it free.

I got a Bell Galaxy 550 at Walmart for $68 that is really easy to unlock for free and upgrade to 2.2 if you know how to read instructions. I had the browsing working on Speakout. After I got bored with it, I sold it on kijiji! Bit of a sellers market for unlocked 3G Android 2.2 phones, so I made a few bucks on the sale. Only asked for $100, should have asked $120.
When at Zellers, I also bought a Galaxy Gio, which has better specs than the 550 for the same price. It already has Android 2.3 installed. I have not unlocked it yet.
Needless to say, these are really good phones, and probably the best phones you can get at this price point!
