My daughter's speakout phone expired a week ago. I read on this site that her SIM card was therefore toast and there was no easy way to get another one. However, when we called Speakout help she was told it was no problem at all - just buy an airtime card and call back. We did and the nice lady applied the $25 card and the phone worked almost instantly. As a bonus, my daughter had $50 of airtime left on the phone when the year expired . . . and that didn't disappear. She now has $75 of air time and it appears to be good for another year.

I told her she had been fantastically lucky, but she thinks I was way too pessimistic. Either way, that bit about your SIM card going dead within 24 hours of expiry should be removed from this website.

I believe that is part of Speak Out's terms and conditions. That Speak out did not enforce them is a bonus and really should not be relied upon. Most PAYG companies are pretty lax on the expiry within a reasonable period of time. Probably cuts down on the support calls in the process.
