**********Update***************
So I dropped the store this morning and finally got to talk to the manager. She gave me another phone. However, I cannot make any phone calls. She told me that the SpeakOut network is down (WTH?) and I have to wait for the network to resume.

I waited until noon and still cannot make any calls. So I called the Customer Service of SpeakOut from a landline (I cannot even dial 611 from this "new" phone). They told me that they do not have the number of this phone in their database, and apparently they cannot get this phone connected to their network. So they asked me to go back to the store to get a THIRD phone.

So I went back to the store, and surprisingly found some "supervisor" of the store manager is in the store investigating the Speakout issue (not sure if it is because of my complain to the HQ). Anyway, I was warmly hosted and get a THIRD phone which seems to be working till now.

********************************

Bought a 2760 in 7-11@Spadina+College on Dec. 3. Later I found one key (the upper right one) always made some noise when pressing. Therefore I decided to exchange it.

Here comes my nightmare: whenever I dropped by the store, they would tell me that ONLY the manager can make the exchange, while the manager ALWAYS happened to be left JUST BEFORE my visit (coincidence? I don't think so!). I called 7-11 customer service and they just told me that I do have to wait for the damn manager, who certainly will never show up until I can no longer exchange it.

I never thought any reputable store can be so shameless.

FWIW I had a minor problem with the first 1600 I bought at 7-11 and, when I came back with it a few hours later, had no problem exchanging it.

I suspect this is a store policy. Call the store and ask when the manager will be in. If possible set up an appointment. If you get hassled or the manager doesn't show up when promised, contact 7-11 HQ to complain.

If they won't help you then contact Ellen Roseman, the consumer affairs reporter at The Toronto Star.

Thanks man! I called them a few times about when the manager will be there. But the manager always happened to be "Just left" when I dropped by.

I called the HQ, they told me that I will be contacted in a MONTH. I do not think I can still exchange it any more.

I will try to contact the store for another time and if it still does not work I will go for Toronto Star.

I am not THAT unhappy with the phone as it works after all. That is why I kept it for 2 days before I thought "well, why not just get a bug-free one". What bugs me is the way 7-11 dealt with my issue. Damn them!

You may be able to exchange defective 2760 at different 7-11 store (if there is another one near you). First ask if manager is there, and then state your case.

Glad things worked out in the end. FWIW when I exchanged a defective phone at 7-11 they let me swap the SIMs at the same time so that my airtime credit wasn't affected. Something to remember for next time 😉
