It clearly says on the 7-11 speakout site that calls to customer service (*611) calls are free. I just dialed 611 and tried to get a hold of a customer service rep to activate a referral code and no one ever picked up and I waited on hold for at least 3 minutes. After the call I dialed *777 to check my account balance and whaddaya know I was charged for my call to customer service? Just a little warning to all of you. I'm a little peeved at the moment that I lost $1.50 from my balance for no good reason -_-.

Did you call *611 or 611?

* numbers are tollfree. 611 (no star) is probably treated like a normal call.

I waited on hold for at least 3 minutes... I lost $1.50 from my balance

Your phone should indicate how long the call lasted. A 3 minute call costs 75¢, not $1.50 so perhaps there were other calls you made or the charge is for something else (e.g. the 99¢ 911 charge.)

Please call SO CS and ask them why you were charged and what it was for before concluding that all CS calls are now charged.

Did you set up your voicemail from your SO phone? If so, this would generate an airtime charge. You can avoid voicemail charges by setting it up & checking messages from another phone - just call your cell # then press the # sign & follow the prompts.

According to my call log I made a 30 second call to my mom and a 3:45 call to customer service. Also the customer service number appears to be the 1-866 number, I'm guessing it got redirected to that number when I pressed 1 to talk to a customer rep on *611. My balance has dropped $1.50. I have no clue what is going on. I just activated this phone yesterday and made 1 call to my mom and 1 call to customer service to try to activate my referral code. I can only assume that I was somehow charged for my call to customer service because a 30 second call to my mom should not cost me anywhere near $1.50. Perhaps some of it has to do with the monthly 911 fee, but I'm a bit doubtful of that. I'm going to give customer service another call and ask them about this while I activate my referral code. I'm gonna call with a payphone just in case -_-.

The website says to dial 611 (not *611); perhaps that made a difference? I've never been charged dialing 611 (without the *).

Even if it was a billable charge to Cust Svc your calls would've totalled $1.25 not $1.50 (.25 to your mom if it was a local call + $1.00 to Cust Svc)... so the math still doesn't work out even if you factor in the .99 911 fee somehow. Let us know if Cust Svc was able to sort it out for you. Good luck.

Turns out I was right guys. I just called 711 and got a hold of a rep. Activated my referral code and while I was at it I asked the rep about my missing $1.50. She looked it up and told me that I did indeed somehow get accidentally charged for my *611 call. She was very polite and promptly added the $1.50 back to my balance. She told me to dial 611 without the * next time. I'm very happy with the professional way that I was treated by this particular customer service rep, but I am a little skeptical about speakout now... It blatantly says on the manual that calls to *611 are toll free.... I'm gonna be very wary from now on and I'll check my balance everyday. If something weird comes up again I'm going straight to customer service. Hopefully nothing like this will happen again though. On the other hand, Kudos to speakout for hiring some good customer service reps.

Yeah I just noticed that too, but according to my call log I was also charged for my call to *611 along with the call to 1-866. I was assuming that I was only charged for my call to the 1-866 number. So the short call to *611 explains the 25 cent discrepancy. Lesson to be learned: you get charged for calls to customer service if you add * before their number. Just dial 611.

The info that came with my phone says to dial 611 (not *611).

Oh is it? I recalled that checking your balance was *777 so I assumed that cust service was *611. It's weird how they picked up when I dialed *611. Should it even make a difference? Oh well, lesson learned. The customer service rep was quite helpful and fixed the problem so I'm a happy camper once again.

I wasn't charged for my 3minute call when I accidentally dialed *611 instead of just 611.
