I think that when "7-eleven" said "Yes", they meant that it was rediculous to have to buy a phone if you just needed the SIM.
So far, that is true --- SpeakOut SIMs are not sold separately. However, if you surf over to the "Phone Exchange" forum, you'll probably find someone who is selling a SpeakOut SIM by itself. I think the going rate is about $20-$25.

Yes.
Please explain.
7 Eleven's Customer service rep said it's not possible, he said I MUST by their phone !!
They don't endorse it obviously but it works fine with any unlocked GSM850/1900 phone as well as Rogers locked phone.
So -- it is physically impossible to buy a SIM card from 7 Eleven store and use it in my phone? They wont sell it to me?

I would suspect a bundled phone is something Ztar mobile has to do to keep Rogers happy.
I have no way of knowing this is true, but there is a rumoured that, coming real soon, Speakout will have a promotion that if you buy $100 of Speakout phone credit, you get a Nokia 1661 phone free. You can easily sell it on kijiji as a rogers compatible phone for $30. There is a market for cheap phones to replace contract phones that had an unfortunate accident! 🙂
