I was posting a suggestion in another thread when I thought that this topic probably should have its own thread.

I have found used chargers for various cell phones at Value Village. The chargers are usually priced in the $5.00 to $10.00 range. I've seen chargers at the local Value Village here in Victoria, in Nanaimo, and in Winnipeg.

I've bought chargers for Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, and Blackberry phones, and seen chargers for several other makes.

Be sure to take the phone with you and test it before you buy it. They don't test electronic stuff and don't give refunds on that sort of thing if it doesn't work.

If you are over 60, Value Village gives a 30% discount to everyone over 60 every Tuesday. I assume that is a chain wide rule — I've used it in Victoria, Nanaimo and Winnipeg.

I've also seen chargers at some Salvation Army stores. The local ones here in Victoria give a 20% discount for seniors on Tuesdays to compete with Value Village. I have no idea if that is just a Victoria thing or if it happens elsewhere.

I have also found cell phone headsets sealed in the factory bags in Value Village. Lots of folks never unwrap the headset or use it, so the sealed headsets are new. I wouldn't touch a used headset — but the sealed ones are brand new.

My friend is actually using a perfectly good Nokia Flip Phone I got from Value Village for $9.99 minus the Tuesday discount plus HST. Unfortunately buying a charger doubled the price of the phone. I really wouldn't bet on getting that lucky all the time -- often the batteries are dead.

I buy my chargers and batteries from Chinese sellers from eBay. Usually the cost is less than $5 shipping included. There is a risk the item will not work, but that can be minimized if you buy from an ebay seller that has a lot of positive feedback and pay using paypal. Even when I got a duff part, I contacted the seller and got a refund or another part. Only real downside is the time it takes to get stuff, sometimes 5 weeks.

Both are good suggestions. Thanks for the tip!

Don't know how long they'll have them, but Winner's bby (Lougheed?Madison, above Save-On just west of Willingdon) has them for 10 bucks, and it comes with four interchangeable different plugs- micro, mini-usb, and no clue what the other two are. Much better than the ~$50 that they want for my Samsung, when the whole package for the phone is also $50. What a racket!!!!

for newer phone that use micro-usb, just get a cable via deal extreme. I bought one for 2 bucks, shipping included.

for older phone, salvation army etc. always have some selection here and there.
