Hmm. This is very strange. My girlfriend and her brother both have the low-end Nokia phones from Speakout. Dialing 611 on both of their phones fails.
Myself, I have a low-end Nokia and a Samsung smartphone each with Speakout sims. The Nokia can't dial 611 while the Samsung can.
Perplexing. The Nokias are able to dial regular phone numbers - no problem there.
I just swapped the sims in my 2 phones and once again, the Nokia can't call 611.
So that makes 3 different Nokia phones with 3 separate sims that can't call 611.
Ian, what kind of phone are you using?

I feeling all alone with this problem, and I think that it's depends on where you are. Customer service explained that it must have something to do with 2g routing. This is why my Samsung smartphone, which uses 3g, can connect, but not the ordinary phones.
I've also found that in areas a few km from my place (Toronto, west end), 611 works fine. If I go closer to my home, I can't get through.

Just to update, the problem has finally been fixed. It was localized to an area of a few square km in my district in Toronto. If I went further away, 611 functioned. If I got closer to home, it stopped working.
The technicians listened in as I dialed 611 and picked up the error messages. It took about a week to fix. They said it was a routing issue.
