Hi there, not sure if this is the same for SO, but on PCM I keep getting SMS's every time somebody leaves me a voice message. I can already see the little tape symbol when I have a voice message, I don't want to keep deleting useless SMS's all the time too.
Anyway I can modify so I won't be getting SMS when I receive a voice mail? I still want to get SMS from PCM regarding other stuff (in case you do receive from other stuff), but not from SMS's.

I first noticed that years ago when I switched from Rogers old technology (TDMA) to Fido GSM. I think Rogers GSM works the same way. Maybe it's a GSM thing?
I also noticed that if I don;t erase the old message and I get another message, then it doesn't send a new text, but modifies the old one.
I'm guessing it's a GSM thing. I was a little upset when I first noticed it as well. Kinda silly.
Perhaps not every phone has that Voicemail icon on the screen, and that;s why they need to send a message? My old (TDMA) Nokia had that logo, but I don;t think my Sony Ericsson or my Motorola GSM phones have it. Or at least I didn't need it because of that text BS.
I'm guessing it's a GSM thing.

I don't know, I never had voice mail before since i've been with Fido.
You are right, it does modify the old message. And no not getting charged, just that message will allways be there and if I do get a SMS I won't be able to notice it if I start ingonoring the SMS. And deleting the SMS every time I receive a voice mail is kinda silly and tiering

Heh I phoned PCM and told them about this and they say it's not their network that sends SMS's for voicemail. I told them I am using a different Nokia handset than the ones they are selling and they told me it might just be the phone itself.
My phone is a Nokia 6085, anyone have experience with it?
EDIT: I have phoned Nokia asking if it's the phone who does that and they said it's impossible because all the voicemail and SMS is controled by the provider. And when I phoned PCM as I said I told them I am using a non official Nokia phone.
Could anyone who does use one of their official phone try this and let me know if their official phones don't receive SMS when you get a voice mail? (Voice mail is free and it's also free to acess your voice mail and delete the message from a landline. Maybe you can phone yourself from your landline and leave a message and let me know?).
Thanks.

I just spoke with somebody again and this gal just informed me that the system automatically sends SMS and it's nothing they can do since it's somehow hardwired in, and if they disable it then the phone will not work, as as she said, that's how they send information to the phone.
Never had voice mail before but bottom line is a bit annoying going into SMS and having to read that message every time so the SMS icon will disappear.
